Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlie.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My entrepreneurial journey started when I was 13 years old. I opened a candy store to fund my shopping habits. At an early age, I was obsessed with everything fashion related and knew that I would pursue a career in fashion. When it was time to go to college, my mother decided that it would best to go for “something real” which in her mind was something healthcare-related. I went to FAMU to pursue my BS in healthcare management. My program track was split between healthcare and business. The business classes were always my favorite classes. When it was time to submit projects surrounding businesses, I would usually relate them to a fashion business. When I graduated in 2014, I pursued a career in healthcare and was unsuccessful.
I launched my first business in 2015, creating distressed tees and women’s accessories. As any first-time business owner, I experienced major wins and major losses. Each year I would face a different setback and would take a break from my business. It wasn’t until I relaunched in July 2019 that I told myself that it was life and death and no matter what I would not stop. My relaunch was very successful by September, I was selling women’s clothes. It is now 2020 and I have made a lot of positive strides towards being a household name.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Entrepreneurship is not an easy journey. I have experienced financial setbacks by purchasing items that I assumed would sell and didn’t. I didn’t know that it was a set of processes and procedures that you follow to purchase, market and ultimately sell an item. There are so many working parts that are required in order to grow a multimillion dollar business. I jumped headfirst into a business without knowing any of this so I have had to do plenty of course correcting along the way. I have experienced mental setbacks as well. Not being where you want to be when you want to be really can deter and discourage you. I would face a setback and instead of learning and growing through it, I would halt my entire business which ultimately continued to set me back.
Please tell us about Glamour Society.
Glamour Society is a luxury boutique that aims to motivate, inspire, and encourage women worldwide to be the best versions of themselves. We accomplish this mission by offering quality clothing at an affordable price, giving our customers great customer service, and creating a branded community that allows women to be unapologetically themselves. As a company, I am extremely proud that I am able to touch so many women and make them feel beautiful on various budgets. The mission for my company was formed when I was 13 years old, opening a candy store in my nana’s garage to afford the things my parents deemed too expensive.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would not do anything differently because each lesson has propelled me further. Actually, the only thing I would do differently would be to take the lessons as they come and grow through them instead of letting them defeat me.
