Meet Lucas Carvalho of Uprising in Mid-City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucas Carvalho.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and have been living in the same neighborhood my whole life. Growing up, I always knew that I wanted to be an entrepreneur just like my dad. When I started high school, I really started to fall in love with hip-hop and the big emphasis it had on fashion. From the big and extravagant ways that the artist dressed or the way they composed certain outfits fascinated me. Since then, I have always been into fashion. Designing clothes, how to dress them and put pieces together and of course, the business side of it. In high school, I was too insecure to disclose any of this to my peers or family. As I entered college and Indiana University. I really began to open up and really dive deep into clothes. I started trying out all new clothes and styles and eventually came up with a style for myself. I moved back to La in 2019, which really allowed me to further expand my knowledge about clothing. I now own a clothing brand called Uprising. I hope to further grow the business and design things that people can resonate and relate with.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. Trying to chase your dream and also balance school and social life and not to mention the other businesses I want to run as well. I’m also very intrigued and into real estate and marketing and managing as well. Knowing how to balance and choose what road you want to take and conquer first is a very tough thing for me because I honestly want to do all of these things and want them integrated in my life.

Uprising – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
So my business is a clothing brand that I officially started earlier this year. It’s an idea I have had for a while and I finally got it running. I design my own clothing and it is made to order. It is called Uprising and what I am most proud of is the fact that I am able to express what and how I feel and have people resonate with those feelings.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
So far, just building the website and getting the brand is out there is what I am most proud of.
