Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Barger.
Christine, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began doing ventriloquism as a way to cope with the passing of my baby brother as a child. I shared my talent with other children that had lost loved ones. When I realized I could inspire and help others through the tough times, I decided that’s what I wanted to do with my life. I’ve been preforming as a ventriloquist and actress ever since. I now travel nationwide performing ventriloquism at events and parties. I perform at all types and sizes of events, but I specialize in corporate and college entertainment.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have definitely had moments where it has been a bit challenging, especially when I found out that I have carpal tunnel and TMJ. I still perform without too much difficulty. Sometimes I limit the length of performances with certain characters because they are more difficult on me physically than other characters I use in my shows.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Christine Barger Ventriloquist – what should we know?
I specialize in clean comedic corporate and college entertainment. I have a unique aspect to my performances that involves the guests more than a typical ventriloquist performance because I use my training as an improviser and incorporate improve games with audience member participation. Some of my shows include 15+ on stage participants as well as the rest of the audience participating from their seats.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel my determination is key. Any career in the entertainment arts has its ups and downs. Sticking with it and staying positive is key. I also think it helps that my passion comes from a place of wanting to help others.
