Meet Adolfo Sanchez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adolfo Sanchez.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I first started as a teenager who fell in love with fashion the moment I walked by the windows of a Versace boutique in South Coast Plaza. I knew I wanted to be involved in the industry and just wasn’t sure how to go about it. I eventually applied at the same Versace boutique for a sales position and got the job. I then climbed the corporate retail ladder and ended up in Las Vegas working for Gucci, bought a small sewing machine and started sewing on the side. I become more and more fond of the actual design and construction process. I realized that I wanted to be on the creative end instead of the sales end for another company. I decided to move to back to Los Angeles and pursue developing and building my own brand.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I was young and didn’t realize how much harder it would be to sell my own product instead of a product that already has such a strong name and image behind it. Having people respect you as a young designer and I think the constant comparison to existing brands is one of the major struggles young designers face. It definitely has not been a smooth road but I do believe that it’s these struggles that help build us and make us stronger.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m a self-named woman’s made to measure label with a focus on custom evening wear and bridal. I love intricate and elaborate details so hand-worked garments with this type of work and detail is something I really love to offer.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have had so many people that have been my personal cheerleaders that have really helped me get to where I am today. Everything from friends, family, employees that have stuck by my side and made the impossible possible. Fashion students and Interns who have worked alongside of me to help build pieces and meet deadlines. Lastly and most important clients who have the ability to choose or wear any other brand that exists and make the decision to wear and support my brand. Without clients, we don’t exist.
