Meet Sofi Astwood of Sofi’s Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sofi Astwood.

Sofi began as a freelancer helping friends with their headshots. The first was her friend Erika, an opera singer whom planted the seed of possibilities for Sofi. As a result Sofi’s desire to help others with their headshots and social media profile images grew.

To make the sessions fun, Sofi adds a beauty bar for group sessions and a personal make-up artist for private sessions. It feels great to help people create a profile image that matches their personality and bringing out their best.

Working with people and hearing their needs for event entertainment, Sofi added an open air photo-booth to her list of services. An open air photo-booth allows those with specific backdrop preferences an opportunity to be creative with the backdrop. Gold sequins is requested the most and brides like to create backdrops with flowers.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The beginning of anything doesn’t seem to ever be smooth but when you start something out of love, the hard work, long hours and planning don’t seem to phase me.

In photography we experience cyber fairies so we always need to prepare with double batteries, lights, cameras, and sometimes we give in to good old improvisation. In the beginning, you learn as you go and take note of what doesn’t work or what works best.

I truly believe in my husband’s saying, “a problem is an opportunity for a solution”.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Sofi’s Studio is known for Avatar photography; photographing individuals for their personal and professional social media images.

Our group session with beauty bar is the most fun and economical. Having an image that brings our best self forward is empowering and I enjoy offering that opportunity.

We also offer a cutting edge photo booth service with our open air photo booth. Our booth is cutting edge since its small and free standing outside of a box. Creative minds enjoy the open air photo booth since the back drop can be customized.

Our photo strip envelopes are a great extension of creativity since we can add a custom logo to it.

What were you like growing up?
As a kid I was always making my friends laugh and continue to do so. I’m goofier than my kids most days. Being goofy helps me help others get comfortable in front of the camera.

Growing up, Polaroid was a popular instant camera, which I owned. I enjoyed my Polaroid so much I would get in trouble for photographing my new shoes. I would create a set with the shoe boxes and my stuffed animals were my models. I had a lot of fun with my Polaroid.

At age 10 my grandfather gifted me an Olympus snap and shoot film camera which I still have. Growing up, although I enjoyed capturing my surroundings, I never imagined it could be a profession.

Books, music and French fries are on my top 10 list of favorite things as well.

This is truly inspiring, goes to show anyone can do anything as long has they have the faith and put the action togeather. Reminds me a lot of a quote I heard which went along the lines of “the one who says they can, and the one who says they can’t. Are both right.” It is clear you have put a lot of work and faith into this, continue working hard Sofi!
