Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanel Wiggins.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Chanel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well, I’m from Los Angeles and have been here all of my life. So naturally growing up in LA, you’d think I would know the city backward and forward — I’ll let ya, I WISH I did. There’s still so much of Los Angeles I need to discover! But my experience growing up in LA has influenced me to become an actor. I’ve been acting since I was four-years-old.
I attended nothing but performing arts schools my entire life from elementary to college, so my knowledge in theater and the industry I’d say is pretty solid. I attended South Shores Performing Arts Magnet Elementary School and upon having the greatest five years there performing and learning how to be a small professional, my parents wanted to keep me performing so I went to Marina del Rey Performing Arts Middle School. I did some cheerleading on the side, but I of course took pride in my acting classes and found a love for the art of dance as well. Now, I’ll admit I haven’t danced in a LONG time, but I do love and miss doing the art form. I went to Alexander Hamilton High School Music Academy and that’s where I really honed in on my acting skills and from there, I really believed I would make it as an actor. When it came time for college applications and submissions, I had absolutely no idea where I wanted to go. I knew of course I wanted to stay in California for college, but I still wanted to pursue my passion to the fullest.
Little did I know, my college was staring at me in the face practically everyday for the four straight years I was in high school. There was a poster for the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (or AMDA for short). Needless to say, after much research of that institution, I NEEDED to go to that school! So you can believe how ecstatic I was when I got in! Since graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree of Fine Arts in Acting, I have gone through a couple of talent agencies, getting auditions, not as many bookings as I would like but hey, that’s the business, and I’ve even begun my weightless journey in late February to early March and still going strong!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Life isn’t life without obstacles, naturally. So I wish I could say it’s been smooth, but then there’d be no story. My struggles have dwindled between my acting career and my weight loss journey. In terms of my career, if I’m being completely honest… I’m not a working actor right now. I wish I was unavailable for other projects because I’m working on project A, B and half of C but that’s just not my reality right now. But having faith that God has bigger plans for me is enough to keep me going. When it comes to my weight loss journey, it definitely harder now than it was in the beginning. I joined the “Fitness On Fire Online Training Program” where I am held accountable for my progress through my trainer and nutritionist who have been absolutely AMAZING throughout my journey. But my struggles in my journey are with myself– it’s hard now to keep going when I know I’ve made it so far and have people rooting for me and encouraging me, but like everyone who is trying to lose weight– it tends to be difficult when you just a few more steps or a few more minutes or even the last few pounds to lose– that’s just when the REAL work comes in. But there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel and I of course have faith in achieving my goals in both aspects of my life.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan on getting booked! (Haha, of course like every other creative out there, waiting to be given a chance.) But my plan actually is to lose the weight so that I CAN get booked on amazing projects in the future! My body transformation is on the way– so just you wait! Cause I’ll most definitely be sharing it with the world, along with all of the projects I’ll be on as well!
