Meet Eric Reyes of Crafted Child

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Reyes.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Eric. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Crafted Child began as a question to myself and my friends NJ & Benzer: “What does honest faith-inspired music look and sound like; and can I make that?”. With the desire and super talented friends that I’ve grown up within church, the pieces fell into place. With the few tools I had, I then spent 2018-2019 running around with my laptop and rounding up my friends and their instruments in every direction to record and write what would become our debut record, “WILD!”. Since then, we’ve been lucky enough to play at Chain Reaction in Anaheim, CA in front of all our family and friends. We’re currently working on an upcoming project that we hope to finish and share as soon as possible!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not, but I would be terrified if it was, haha. I can honestly say the road is 90% problem solving and weathering unknown directions, writing, lack of inspiration, balancing time, etc. There was and still are so many days where I’m sitting at my computer not sure of where to go or what I want. I’m lucky to have had friends in the band like Cassie, Benzer and NJ to get me through rough spots in writing and in life, as well as Chase and Jonathan to re-ignite creativity when I’m lacking it. But by far some of the biggest struggles came from trying to make things happen completely independently. Every corner of what we’ve done so far from mixing and mastering the album to the artwork and streaming launch has been by the hands of friendships we’ve made along the way and financially funding from our own pockets. But man, that other 10% where everything just falls together and lines up perfectly is MAGIC. It always makes it worth the climb.

Crafted Child – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Crafted Child is a band comprised of currently eight members, NJ Zara, Cassie Alura, Benzer Uy, Jerica Sterling, David Reyes, Chase Edwards, Jonathan Edwards, and myself. We write and produce faith-based alternative music that speaks to how we are living as friends, as humans, and as Christians giving glory to God. I’m most proud when it comes to the stories and moments that people have shared with us after listening to the record by telling us that it moved, inspired, and or encouraged them. It keeps us determined to write impactful records! What sets us apart? It’s honestly really cool that all the members of the band happen to be Filipino-American!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment so far happened at our first show at Chain Reaction in Anaheim. We were definitely not prepared for the malfunctions and limited time we had to set up. But the moment we started our first song “Child”, the first song on the record, it was incredible to hear friends, family, and fans that had just found us not even weeks before, singing along. That night was filled with things we were not expecting, but it was a shadow compared to a full house singing the songs we’ve worked so hard to create with people we love.
