Meet Chris and Nicole Sobchack of Wraptastic Productions in Del Rey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris and Nicole Sobchack.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Wraptastic Productions was the logical extension of my lifelong connection with the film industry and my wife Nicole’s acting career. We met in NY and reconnected here in Los Angeles when she moved to focus on the film and television world. Fatefully we attended a fundraiser for the Directors Caucus and I won a silent auction for my wife to have a lunch with the late and great Garry Marshall. He and his right-hand executive, Heather Hall, instantly became family. One of Garry’s first words of wisdom to us was not to wait for others to involve you or put you in their movies, but instead to write and produce your own stories! We’ve tried to honor his words ever since. Wraptastic Productions has given us a platform to write, produce, and create all kinds of content that hopefully educates and entertains our audiences.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Most people think the hardest part of the entertainment business whether it be film, television, live theatre, or music is getting that first big break. But in reality, the hardest part is to get a foot in the door so that you have the chance to be noticed. For us, this has been the goal for most of our adult lives. Myself in the music world playing in tons of successful and not so successful bands and Nikki in the film, television, and live theatre world in both New York and here in Los Angeles. The arts are never a smooth road at all, but if you don’t work hard to achieve your lofty goals, you will never reach the stars. For myself, it was heartbreaking to have a band or two implode on the eve of being given the keys to the proverbial castle, for Nikki, having to wait until the pandemic calms down to finally shoot our long-awaited first feature has been tough since we know it’s going to be a fantastic success. But we both know that every “overnight success” is really the culmination of years of work being in the right place at the right time and that regardless of the virus causing delays that we’re going to get there!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Wraptastic Productions – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Wraptastic Productions is an independent production company started in 2013. We are using our shingle to try and bring great entertainment to the world. All with a focus on running the company and dealing with our partners, vendors, and staff as our long-term family.

We have our shortform comedy series, “Please Tell Me I’m Adopted!” which can currently be seen on Amazon Prime, Tubi, and the new special “Quarantine Season 1.5 which was shot entirely virtually is currently airing exclusively on our YouTube channel. This special season started with our two writers, Nicole and Ben Kacsandi’s opposite coast collaboration that while filming stretched from LA, NYC, Atlanta, and even across the Atlantic to our Guest Star Lukas Sauer in Germany.

Once we feel it’s safe and we have our set safety protocols in place, we are excited to head into pre-production on our first full feature, “Lore Harbour” which is a paranormal thriller written by Nicole and Suzanne Rydz and will be shot in upstate New York in the spring.

As a company, we are most proud of the way we always try to lift our talent and crew up. Whether it’s helping a long time background actor finally be SAG/AFTRA eligible by giving them a speaking role or being sure that our crew is well fed and has a frosty adult beverage in their hand after a long day of shooting we believe the more we give the more we get back in loyalty and hard work.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are very optimistic for the future! We feel that our recent experiences where we’ve worn every single hat from writing, producing, filming, post-production, and all the way to final distribution to create and deliver our shows has given us a huge advantage as a company. Even our nine months old daughter, Dylan Christine Sobchack has had to endure and give her opinions during the shooting and post production process! We really know what every person brings when they join our crew because we’ve actually done those jobs ourselves. We can totally get the best out of our people because we’ve been in their shoes and can relate to their issues in a personal way and that only helps to strengthen our production family. We are very excited to find new projects and stories that need to be told.

Currently, on our slate in addition to continuing to make more seasons of “Please Tell Me I’m Adopted!” and possibly turning it into a half-hour format, we look forward to finally shooting our first feature “Lore Harbour” With the response to the script so far we truly believe it will be hugely successful! After that, we have a true life biopic of the first woman to stand up to the US government about the possible health issues from being downwind during the Nevada nuclear testing. “Fallout” as it’s tentatively titled is a fantastic mix of “Silkwood” and “Erin Brockovich” and a story that needs to be told.
