Meet All of LA Fitness Trainer: Joe Bach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Bach.

Mobile Fitness Group started as workout app called PIT Fitness. Joe and his trainer, Trent Bender, had an idea for a mobile phone app. It took 1.5 years to create the app so Joe started doing business development for Trent and his partnership. We opened a group fitness and personal training operation at The Culver Studios in Culver City. Clients began asking Joe to come to their home rather than the gym at the movie studio. Joe then adapted his website and marketing to try to win clients who want to train at home or close to home in a nearby park. Joe then began winning more business than he could personally take on so he started hiring great trainers to work with him

Below you’ll find edited excerpts of our interview with Joe.

Has it been a smooth road?

It’s not always smooth. Hiring and human resources is always challenging. Sales and marketing is not one of Joe’s natural inclinations so hiring good people to help him with those functions has been important.

What are your plans for the future?

Continue bringing great service to more of Los Angeles.

Teach other fitness entrepreneurs around the country about how to start their own mobile personal training business. We feel we’ve found a niche- the convenience factor of personal training at home- that isn’t really being done at an institutional level.

Let’s dig a little deeper into your story.  What was the hardest time you’ve had?

I gotta be honest, nothing in my career or life has been remarkably hard. I’ve been fortunate enough that my family and I have been in good health. My parents are very loving and supportive- we had means to live a comfortable life growing up. I’ve had broken bones, I tore my knee, I’ve been crushed by relationships gone bad, I had a guy I worked with put objective lies in a performance review of mine that ultimately was the springboard for me exiting the corporate world. What can you do but accept and move on? Those things were all hard at the time, but they were temporary. Grinding to build a company with no specific playbook and no real partner to bounce things off of is challenging, but it’s not life-size hard. Human resources are very challenging. We’re in the people business and people don’t always act predictably or maybe you just don’t know them well enough yet to predict.

Do you ever just stop and think WOW – I’ve made it?

I definitely haven’t made it yet. Things are well, customers and our trainers are happy. We still scrap and claw every day to get better and make sure our customers have a great experience. If anyone wants to make an eight-figure investment in the company- then maybe I’ll say we’ve made it 🙂
