Today we’d like to introduce you to Britt Lari.
Britt, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been singing ever since I can remember. However, most of my life was dedicated to being a competitive gymnast for the National Team of Peru. Once I retired from gymnastics, I decided it was finally time to follow my other passion which is music. Without any set intention, I posted little clips of me singing on Instagram until a producer duo, Medii, reached out wanting to collaborate. I never really considered myself a songwriter until they sent me a track and I wrote an idea on the bus ride home from my university which they ended up loving. We released our track in late 2017 and that was enough for me to dive deep into the world of EDM. Since then, I have released multiple singles with producers from all over the world under various electronic music labels including Magic Music, Ego Italy, Tribal Trap, and Sirup. Music.
About a year after my first release, I was loving writing and recording but I wanted to learn how to produce my own beats. With the help of Beat Lab Academy, I started my journey as a producer on Ableton live. This opened a whole new side of music so I began releasing solo projects. In the world of EDM, streaming numbers kept rising along with collaboration opportunities but I noticed that my solo work leaned more towards a pop vibe. My solo music didn’t really fit with the Britt Lari project.
This led to the birth of BIMINI. BIMINI is my side project that emerged from the times of covid19 quarantine, kind of like an alter ego. BIMINI created her single debut while stuck in Peruvian quarantine under martial law. She was in the beach town of Punta Hermosa in Lima, Peru, for about a month which inspired her to create multiple tracks that will be releasing every three weeks starting with “oof.”. Being away from home and all music gear, BIMINI incorporated a LoFi feel to her poppy sounds by recording her demos with an iPhone into Ableton. The “one song a day” mindset that kept her sane through quarantine led her to begin her journey unofficially through Instagram. Once back in LA and with the support of her friends, family, and fans, BIMINI decided it was time to bring her creations to all streaming platforms.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely wouldn’t say smooth. I’ve learned some crucial lessons throughout my journey as a solo artist. Big ones being that rejection is inevitable and that it’s best to take things one day at a time and not focus on the finish line. Also, this one is unfortunate but not all fellow artists will have your best interest in mind. I was part of a project in which I didn’t receive proper credit or ownership of the track even though I wrote and recorded vocals for it. I learned that this happens all the time in the music industry so it’s really important to watch out and stand up for yourself.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a singer, songwriter, and producer. My Britt Lari project specializes in songwriting and recording vocals. I don’t limit my work to my own music, I work as a songwriter/song translator for other artists as well. My BIMINI project specializes in everything. As an independent artist, I build my songs up from zero. Athletics taught me best that hard work pays off so I’m proud to be investing myself into music from all angles and taking on a “yes girl” attitude about the opportunities that present themselves. There are not many female producers in the world so it is empowering to not just be a number in that statistic but a motivator for other women to go after what they love.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I definitely feel luck is a major key to success in the music industry. Aside from who you know, sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time. Though I haven’t found myself in one of those life-changing situations, I know that I am very lucky in other ways. I have a very supportive family, friends, and musicians in my circle!
