Today we’d like to introduce you to Annie Han Dai.
Annie Han, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
At the age of four years old, I started playing the piano, and soon thereafter, I began to hone my vocal skills with my mother. By the age of eleven, my training at a young age led to my first solo singing concert at my junior high school (Beijing Royal School). It was at that moment on the stage in front of the lights and the crowd of people that I fell in love with singing and music, and I knew my life was going to be surrounded with music from then on. That same year, I was granted the opportunity to sing with a professional orchestra for a concert in Beijing.
At thirteen, I performed a solo concert accompanied by the China Opera & Dance Theater Symphony Orchestra at Poly Theatre, one of the major venues for the performing arts in Beijing. Shortly thereafter, I performed sixteen solo concerts. I have performed as vocal soloist with China Philharmonic, China film Symphony, Shenzhen Symphony, Tianjin Symphony, China Opera & Dance Theater Symphony Orchestra, Hunan Symphony, Tianjin Opera & Dance Theater Symphony Orchestra, etc. At this point, I have worked with twelve symphony orchestras.
I’ve been invited to work with China Central Television many times on at least nine different programs. I have also been interviewed by Phoenix TV, Skylink, ICN, Charming China, and Houston STV. I was the winner of the 2018 singing competition hosted by China Central Television. I was the special guest at the Beijing International Film Festival, singing in both 2017 and 2018.
As an actress, I have had roles such as Jiangxin in the film “Love You” and for that role, I won the “Golden Lotus Outstanding New Award of The Selected Works” at the 2018 10th Macau International Movie Festival. Additionally, I have been in films such as “The Ghost” and “Love Detective”. In 2019, I was invited as a guest to the 72nd Cannes Film Festival. I’m the spokesperson & artist for Amason of Pearl River Piano. My 2020 single “ Make Me Forget”, released in the USA in June 2020, landed a billboard spot on NetEase CloudMusic’s Soaring Chart, and China’s Global Song Chart.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My career path at times has been challenging. As my career progresses, I continue to have to make difficult decisions, including the ability to juggle schoolwork with career obligations, but my journey is only beginning and I have a long road ahead. I aim to be a highly skilled singer/songwriter known for thoughtful narratives and distinctive vocals, and I have won many major awards but to get to where I want to go, I know it will not be easy. I hope to create work that demonstrates heightened awareness of music and sound that will help me to create vibrant, colorful music teaming with life and ambition. I have a voracious appetite for many different kinds of music and refuse to confine myself to any one sound or style. I hope to take it all in and forge it into my own personal form of expression.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
The companies that I collaborate with specialize in art and entertainment. I collaborate with more than seven entertainment and art companies. For me at times, it can be a bit difficult to make a decision. The companies that I work with are known for creative and cutting-edge works of art and we are always looking to push the boundaries of entertainment to bring joy to the people of the world.
What were you like growing up?
I was born and raised in a musical family. My mother sings soprano and my father is an orchestra conductor and a well-known trumpet player. At the age of four years old, I started playing the piano, and soon thereafter, I began to hone my vocal skills with my mother.
