Meet Amber Rice-Horvath of Amber’s Earth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Rice-Horvath.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Amber. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born & raised in LA. I just moved to Denver about a year ago which was a very positive life-changing experience for me. I have never lived anywhere else before this. I started my business in making all-natural & organic beauty products after I discovered my love & passion for all things wellness & fitness related. I was in college, getting my bachelor’s degree. If I’m being honest, I was lost. I didn’t know what I wanted out of life or my career. I changed my major four times while attempting to get my bachelor’s. While in college, I became a health coach for Herbalife. It was through this experience I discovered that I wanted to help others achieve their wellness goals. I finally knew what career I was going to persue! I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in Health Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2011 & went on to get my master’s degree in Applied Clinical Nutirition from the New York Chiropractic College in 2015.

While in school at NYCC, I took a class in pharmacognosy (the study of herbal medicine) & I was hooked. I learned so many amazing things about herbs, how to infuse them with oils & alcohol’s, how to make tinctures, salves, etc. It was fascinating to me! I wanted to experiment more. I began making sugar scrubs & lip balms for friends & family & as favors for my parties. I’m a big entertainer. I love hosting events. When I received such a positive response from everyone & many suggestions to start selling my products, I decided to go for it & I’m so glad I did. I now own a successful online shop. I love hearing about how my products that I’ve made by hand have helped someone or made a difference. It’s so fulfilling and rewarding. Aromatherapy & herbal medicine is so powerful.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Getting any business going is a challenge in itself. I would say my biggest challenge was having enough inventory to be able to sell on a larger scale once my business started growing & I started renting booths at craft fairs & other events. All of my products are handmade. I measure all my ingredients by hand & I take great pride in my work. It’s taken me years to perfect my recipes for my products. Initially, I spent about two weeks in my lab making products non-stop. Everything from sugar scrubs, lip balms, herbal balms & aromatherapy room & body mists. It was hard, but I’m also now quicker at whipping up products whenever I need to. My latest challenge would be what most business owners are facing today…CORONAVIRUS! I had plans, reservations at shows & at farmers markets in my area this spring & summer. Plans to expand & rebrand my business. Covid-19 has forced me to go back to the drawing board to figure out how to continue to run a successful business strictly online with minimal financial support.

Amber’s Earth is a handcrafted, all-natural, organic beauty product line. We currently sell lip balms, sugar scrubs, herbal balms & aromatherapy room & body mists. All of our products, except for the room & body mists are made with organic, raw, cold-pressed coconut oil that has been infused with calendula for no less than one month. Some of the medical properties of calendula include: antibacterial, antifungal & anti-inflammatory. We also use shea butter imported from Africa, organic beeswax & various essential oils just to name a few of our ingredients. Our aromatherapy room & body mists would be our most popular product. These mists can be used in the air, on any fabric or on your body.

We carry our mists in sweet lavender, citrus mint, floral fusion & deodorizing year around. We also sell 1-3 limited edition seasonal mists. For summer, we have our limited edition summer nights mist which has been popular for two seasons now. In the upcoming fall, we will sell our trick or treat & crisp autumn mists which were a hit last season. Our most popular balm would be our healing balm. This balm can be used on every kind of skin ailment you can think of. Everything from dry skin, bug bites, burns, cuts, scratches, rashes, hives, etc. It’s great for kids too. The coconut oil infused with calendula does numbers & speeds up the healing process on skin.

I take pride in all of our products being handcrafted, organic & natural ALWAYS! I believe this sets us aside from other beauty lines out there. You can pronounce every ingredient in all of our products.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I think I was a lot of fun. Positive & happy, I always had friends. I was always very active. I played various sports throughout my life, was a cheerleader & I’ve been a dancer since I was 3 & also currently work as a group fitness instructor. I am very social, organized, caring & thoughtful. In college, I was the President of my sorority & held various other positions on our Board of Directors. In my 20’s I helped lead & direct various dance groups & danced professionally myself.
