Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexy Dobbin.
Lexy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started in music at the age of 16. I was interning at music festivals in Australia, working club nights at 17 (shh) and then went on to join the team at Ministry of Sound Australia shortly after that. It was here I got my most hands-on experience in the industry. I started at MOS as a touring coordinator for our talent agency, where we homed over 50+ touring artists. I became Ministry of Sound’s first female talent agent at the age of 24 years old. Soon after that, I created the Corporate division at Ministry of Sound, which was the first of its kind in a talent agency within Australia. During my time at the Ministry, I met an artist by the name of GG MAGREE and it kind of feels like the rest is history HA.
After three amazing years at MOS, and after being GG’s touring agent for a couple of months we started working together after hours on a more in depth project – completely re-branding her, working on music, touring nationally, and securing a collaboration that would change our lives forever – FRONTLINES ZEDS DEAD x GG MAGREE x NGHTMRE. The day this deal was signed, I actually handed in my notice at Ministry of Sound to go on and become GG’s full-time manager (keep in mind had NO idea what I was doing, and still don’t just felt right at the time)
From then GG and I went to London to really leverage off the global MOS brand and get our feet in as many doors as possible. Fast forward a couple of years we’ve moved to America, played all the major festivals in America, Asia, Australia, EU, and Mexico = and if it wasn’t for COVID 19, we would of had a taste of the Coachella Sahara stage this year.
I joined Red light management in 2018 after being approached by one of the amazing executives there – which to me was a dream come true as in my eyes, RLM is the leading management company for musicians globally. During my time here, I have worked with multiple artists, developing their projects, writing incredible music, and developing release and touring plans on a global stage along with securing brand endorsements and partnerships.
While i loved every minute of my position at RLM i actually just very recently resigned to take a step back and have some time off for the first time in 8 years without working. However…two weeks into this I’m already working on brand partnerships for creatives across the board and in additon to this working with Coote Experts and Live Nation globally to host masterclasses by yours truly for aspiring artists & managers. The core of these classes is to give first hand experience to the future of our industry and it’s something I am SO excited to bring to life.
I truly am blessed to do what I do.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
NO!!! Is it ever a smooth road? But it does make it all worth it learning from the bumps in the road. I mean at first GG and I weren’t actually allowed in America even on an ESTA (but we can leave that story for a time when you interview GG) but overcoming being granted a US working visa was a huge deal for us, and essentially has impacted our livelihood in a great manner. Our visas were denied a week before GG’s scheduled debut US show which was ULTRA Music Miami in 2017, so that was fairly devastating but it all happened for a reason.
Another challenge was being an independent manager in a completely foreign country at such a young age. I truly had no idea what I was doing. I had to set up my company in a different country, Was alone 24/7 once GG’s touring picked up and really started to miss the team atmosphere as well as my entire family and friends back home. But I gave myself a good talking too, we started playing major shows all around America and then just when I was about to cave, Red Light Management gave me an offer I couldn’t refuse and so that’s been my home the last two years which ill be eternally grateful for.

My work mentality is listen to your heart not your head. Be kind, don’t take people’s last dollars, look at artists as humans not entities, and be honest all the time. This type of mentality isn’t seen often in the industry, and I’m proud of myself for being this way. I always say I will never work with talent or people that don’t ask how you are, say please or thank you, or work as hard as I do….and I will never change my thoughts and attitude around this as I believe it got me to where I am today.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The ability to relate to people, read people and know when your job is done.
