Meet Freddy Santos of Nerdbot Photo Booth in Bell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Freddy Santos.

Freddy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Our interest in creativity, technology and design led us to develop Nerdbot Photo Booth. I have always been fascinated with technology and what you can accomplish with it. While in elementary school, I recall waking up extra early just so that I could get to school with plenty of time to play and doodle on a classic Macintosh computer.

Years later, I attended Cal State Los Angeles with an interest in Computer Engineering. I was not in love with it. I then set my eyes on a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design.

I always envisioned working for a magazine or developing product packaging for companies and doing so much more with my new degree. As happens in life, things don’t turn out how you imagine them. I found a stable job in customer service and was promoted into a position with more responsibility. Fortunately, they’ve always given me opportunities to put my skills to use by allowing me to work with digital signage or the company website. I soon grew hungrier for more work. One night, I turned to my wife and said, I want to start a photo booth business. It was an idea that came out of left field but I am so happy that it came to me and that I can now do the things I love to do with my co-owner and wife.

Has it been a smooth road?
It took some time to develop that idea into a working business. Our experience in photography was minimal but we knew that we could use our basic knowledge as a foundation to eventually produce work that people would love.

Our first client was a friend of ours who wanted an on-site Green Screen Photo Booth experience. At this first event, we found out that the demand for instant prints far outmatched the speed of our equipment. From that day forward we made a decision to invest in equipment that was of the upmost professional quality and not be afraid of startup business costs. It was the best decision we ever made.

We rely on word of mouth to get our name to potential clients which is why we continue to seek out opportunities to improve the photo booth experience.

At Nerdbot Photo Booth, we specialize in on-site photo booth and green screen photography for all event types: birthdays, weddings, quinceañeras, holiday parties, corporate events and more.

We have been in business since 2013 and are proud to offer a quality photo booth experience to all our guests. Our photo booth can produce prints in under 10 seconds for an instant souvenir that can be taken home to commemorate the event. We also have online galleries where guests can find their photo to download or share on social media.

Our experience in graphic design allows us to customize photo strips to satisfy any occasion. We pride ourselves in working with our clients to get the photo strip or green screen background design just right days before the event.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is a beautiful place to start a business. It’s a big city full of diversity and it seems that there is always something for everyone. The fact that there can be so many other businesses like ours that thrive makes it that more business friendly. Though competition exists, there is room for a startup to squeeze their way into any industry.

• Green Screen/Studio Photo Booth – $500 for 2 Hours ($150 each additional hour)
