Meet Dominique Watkins of Black Bastard Beard Oil

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Watkins.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Dominique. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always been a person who likes to make money just not under a “boss”, but as the boss. At a very young age, I always questioned why I had to work hard for somebody who did less work and made more than me. Never made sense to me. I’ve always had a hustler mentality but not street hustle because I’m from the suburbs lol but I know how to sell myself and what I’m selling very well by showing that you can trust what I’m saying because I only back things that I myself would purchase. So working for companies selling just “stuff” to people always rubbed me the wrong way as well. So for years, I tried to figure out what I could build a brand with and then one day, it just clicked. You make your own beard oil and it works! So why not bottle it up and sell it? I started giving samples to my friends and let them try for a few months and they loved it! That inspired me to go ahead and go for it.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, I try to stay as positive and grateful through all situations by showing gratitude to the universe/God for allowing me to have the necessary tools to even start the process. Yes, investing money, your own money, can always cause challenges when you are trying to put out the best product possible. I however try to be as resourceful as possible and tactful in my decision making when obstacles arise. It’s not easy and its a lot of work starting a business, but it could always be worse and could always be harder. Either way, I’m up for the challenge because I believe in MY product!

Please tell us about Black Bastard Beard Oil.
I’m one of the few black-owned beard oil brands specializing in vegan and organic beard oils formulated for men of color that help to grow, soften, and help manage your beard or hair. Although my product is formulated for men of color, it’s beneficial for all men ! I’ve had a few women of color try it in their natural hair and they love it as well!

I’m proud of the fact that I made a product people like lol. The reviews have been positive and the results I’ve seen from my users have been phenomenal.

I think what sets Black Bastard Beard Oil apart from others is that our oil isn’t crowded with a bunch of ingredients which causes you not to receive the full benefits of each individual natural oil especially when there are so many poured in plus we don’t use fillers!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Christmas was LIT!!! LOL. But for real, I would say my favorite memory from childhood would be my childhood in general. The whole thing. Just remembering the kid, I use to be to becoming the man I’ve become and the in-between that formed me really makes me love and appreciate my childhood and the innocence that it carried before I knew “the real world” lol.
