Meet Hannah Kling of Lovely Delites in Whittier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Kling.

Hannah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always loved food, don’t we all? However, I grew up idolizing unrealistic standards of body expectations. This led me to have a bad relationship with food. Experimenting with crash diet after crash diet, restricting my favorite foods, which are sweets, and then the overconsumption of them to make up for the restrictions I put on myself.

As I got older, I grew out of the phase in my life and I knew that it was not a way to live. So, I decided to create Lovely deLITES – a platform where I can share wholesome and balanced recipes that I eat in my day to day life. On my website, you will find a variety of different food recipes, ranging from breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner and a lot… I mean a lot of sweets.

I love to experiment in the kitchen and take my favorite recipes that are typically high in sugar and put a “Lovely deLITE” spin on them and make them either gluten-free, vegan or plant-based.

Lovely deLITES reflects my beliefs on eating and living a healthy lifestyle. All of my recipes are easy to follow and only require minimal ingredients. I don’t believe that it’s hard to eat healthy! Cooking and baking also does not have to be hard or take a lot of time. I try to show my audience that every day!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like anything worth having, there are challenges that you will face and have to overcome. In order to grow your business you have to be consistent, which can be a challenge if you work full time. When I first started lovely delites, I was commuting to work over an hour each way. My days would be 10+ hours long and it was hard to find the time to fit in building a brand, but with persistence and dedication, I was able to work at it early in the morning and late at night to get to where I am today. I’m nowhere finished, but it’s a great feeling to know that I’ve come all this way because of my hard work and dedication!

Lovely Delites – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Lovely delites is a website and blog where I create recipes that are either vegan, gluten-free or just all around good for you! The name Lovely deLITES came from a lunch that I was having with my boyfriend. We were enjoying an acai bowl and I thought to myself, “wow… this is truly a lovely delight”. From there, lovely delites was born.

My favorite thing to do is take one of my favorite childhood recipes and recreate it to be a healthier version of that. For example, girl scout cookies! I have a few remakes on my blog where you can make a homemade healthier version of that classic girl scout cookie that everybody loves.

If you take a look at my page, you will see that I am known for desserts! This is because I LOVE sweets. I spent way too much of my younger years restricting sweets, so now I don’t; and I’m not afraid to indulge either. Life is all about balance. The more you restrict the more you will crave that food you are restricting.

I’m so proud of lovely delites because it inspires others to live their best life. I try to put an emphasis on living a free and balanced lifestyle. Life is way too short to be worrying about what you eat, that’s why I only create recipes that have whole-some, better-for-you ingredients.

I think what sets my brand apart from others is my aesthetic. I love that clean and minimalist feeling which is why from the very start of my page, I started to use my infamous marble plate. I use this plate in ALL of my recipes. From the very beginning to now, I only have a few different dishes that I take my photos in. I love this because when you see my picture in a group of others, you will know right away from the plate that it was created by Lovely Delites!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I have had a couple of proud moments, but by far my proudest moment is when my Cauliflower Cinnamon-Roll Gnocchi went viral.

I did something most people would think is weird and I took Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Gnocchi and air fried them and then tossed them in cinnamon and sugar and drizzled them with icing. The result was the center of the cinnamon roll for each bite. It was magical and took IG by storm!

Since then, The Kitchn wrote an article about my famous Cinna-Gnocchi and I have seen countless remakes of it. This is definitely a proud moment that i’ll look back on.
