Meet Miles Patrick of Saint Pat Beatz in South Central Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miles Patrick.

Miles, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story started just like a lot of producers running the game right now. FL studios offered a free demo, and I started creating sounds that mimicked the music I was into at the time. I’m heavily influenced by jazz and the gritty New York “Boom Bap” sound. Finding the artist who actually appreciated the same music taste I do, while building an infrastructure on the West Coast was the challenge. Somehow the universe allowed me to meet such individuals, *Punch (TDE), Willie B, Daylyt* to help me expand my reach as a producer.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’d say staying true to my sound and not compromising it was a puzzle. Like I said earlier, my sound catered more to the East Coast. My style typically did not reflect the standard Los Angeles club records. Finding my audience was the big payoff in the midst of that. I could’ve easily copied and went along with what was hot in the city. Being fulfilled with what I envisioned was more important to me.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I just released my first album “God Loves Pious” with the help of my manager and mentor Doughboy. Doing all of this independently and to have Rob Markman (journalist, rapper, head of artist relations at Genius) involved, inspired me to create more self produced projects. I pride my self on my hard-hitting drums, sample choices, and the subtle details that make the art. I carry the philosophy of Miles Davis when it comes to my creative process. “Master your instrument, Master the music, and then forget all that bullshit and just play”. That mindset stops me from limiting my imagination and allows me to stay creative.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing. Every mistake was perfect. Mistakes showed me who I needed to stay away from and what I needed to do better. My relationship with “L’s” have become symbiotic to my wins and growth as a person (spiritually and mentally).
