Meet Alejandra Ochoa of Piel de Miel in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandra Ochoa.

Alejandra, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up, I was very insecure because I had acne. Not only acne but cystic acne. The painful ones. I got made fun of or got “looks” that made me very insecure and had me wearing makeup at a really young age. Because of this, I have always been interested in the skincare and beauty world. As I got older, I wanted a career in that world. I became especially interested in esthetics because of my background. Once I finally got the courage to quit my 9-5 and enroll in school, I knew I was where I was meant to be! I love giving people the confidence to be their true self and making them feel beautiful in their own skin. It’s been a year since I’ve started Piel de Miel, and I’ve never been more excited or sure of where my career is headed!

Has it been a smooth road?
Getting the ball rolling was the biggest struggle for me. I was going from job to job and I was so unhappy. But I was also scared to take that first step. I was scared to not have the financial security of having a full-time job and also scared of failure. With the help and support of my family and my boyfriend, I finally took the leap, and it’s been the best decision I have made. I really couldn’t have done it without them. My mom has been extremely supportive and helpful from the beginning, and I’ve been fortunate enough to have my sister in the same business and she’s helped make it a smoother road for me.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Piel de Miel story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in facial treatments such as microdermabrasion, extractions, enzyme peels, LED treatments, and facial massage, to name a few. My workplace is a place for everyone, no matter the age, race, gender, or background. I want whoever comes into my workplace to feel comfortable with whatever skin concern they may have. And I want them to leave with confidence.

Piel de miel literally translates to honey skin, in Spanish. When you think of perfect skin, most people think of soft, hydrated, moisturized skin. That’s exactly what honey can do to your skin.

I can think of no better natural ingredient to be the name and face of my brand. Piel de Miel is a representation of my Latin roots and the type of service I want to provide; natural, and effective results. ⁣

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see the esthetics industry getting even bigger and more innovative. And I can definitely see newer, less invasive treatments coming out that give maximum results. I love to keep up with the latest treatments, and I’m so excited for what’s to come to this industry!
