Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Villacob Jr.
Joseph, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Where should we start? Three things that describes me as a person, I am a fighter, loving and passionate. I am Joseph 23 years old. I am a filmmaker, actor, dancer, model. I am born and proud from Miami Beach, FL and raised few years in Barranquilla Colombia. Everything started since I was a kid; I have always been creative thru out my life and I have struggle thru it cause my family didn’t supported me at the beginning because I loved Film and dance but that didn’t stop me. I am a very independent person and because of that I said “Fuck it I want to help my family and I want to do what I love” they always wanted me to be a doctor or lawyer but I stood for myself with my love and passion for the arts. Years later, to my surprise my parents accepted the fact that I stood up for what I love so much that today finally they support my career but just film. I always said that I am a rebel cause when I have a passion for something, I’m always looking forward to it and I like to push buttons, I’m like water transparent, innovative, creative and passionate. I guess that’s why people love me cause of that and my personality. At the age of 17 I started to perform around Miami at different venues, then as I was getting older, I got the opportunity to work on TV and also be part of music videos for major artists like Wisin y Yandel, Marc Anthony, Maluma and Pitbull. I moved to Hollywood from Miami in December 2017 to study Film Production at LA Film School. I want to become a film director. However, knowing myself that I’m a triple threat i wanted to keep dancing, train more at the dance studios around LA, keep getting acting gigs etc.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When I first moved here to Los Angeles things at first was amazing but then it was pretty bad I went thru a breakdown cause my situation was getting worse, I was running out of money then I started school and I still didn’t had a place to live yet. It was hard for me to get an apartment that time, and I was running out of time because I was going to start school and my parents told me to come back to Miami cause of the situation. It got to the point that I was homeless for 4 days, long story short I always thought about my promise when I got on my flight coming to LA “Whatever happens even if you end up homeless you are not coming back, this is a one way flight to your future” Which it happened. One thing that really kept me going was that I was struggling but at least for a purpose, in this case Film School and career. I have to say I’m grateful to be in Hollywood and I did have a rough time but no matter what, I fought for my life and here I am in the middle of Hollywood pursuing for my dreams. As an advice “Do what you love, surround yourself with positivity, trust your guts and It doesn’t matter what people say about you cause at the end of the day they will talk good or bad about you, so why to worry”.
Please tell us about your work.
I am known for being a dancer, actor and filmmaker.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans are to graduate and get my degree in Film Production and make films, continue dancing and of course keep making love to the camera. I always think big and outside of the box, there is no reason for not to do it.
