Today we’d like to introduce you to JakeTheShooter.
JakeTheShooter, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Shortly after I graduated high school, I decided to move to LA. Making the transition from Massachusetts to LA was honestly pretty easy, Of course I miss my family and friends back home in Mass but I love living and being in LA for the people and opportunity it has brought me. I couldn’t see myself located anywhere else for the next few years. I started making videos with my brother at the age of 14. We would make videos of each other long-boarding downhills and then post them on YouTube. By the time I was 17, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in Videography. I was still in high school and didn’t know what path to take but I knew I had a strong passion for creating videos and people would tell me I was good at it. I have been able to work with some of the biggest names in the rap industry. They are A-Boogie, Kodak Black, Lil Tjay, Pnb Rock, Lil skies, Bia, Rapta, Smooky MarGielaa, and TyFonatine. I now have been able to film music videos, concerts, and much more for these artists.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course not, there’s been many obstacles to be able to get to the point I’m at now. I will still and always have to prove myself to people but I think that’s one of the best challenges. My best advice to become successful at something is to find out exactly what you love to do. Once you figure that out, then figure out how you can make an income off of that passion.
Please tell us about your work.
I currently stand as a full time video creator. Recently, I launched my new brand Shooter Co. I describe Shooter Co. as the hub for upcoming and mainstream music artists. We have a YouTube channel where we will be premiering music videos, interviews, and other content as well as an Instagram and TikTok page where we post all types of other content. The purpose of the brand is to give the music culture some new life and to build a family of new artists that we can take to the top.” My plan for the future is to continue to grow Shooter Co. as well as better myself as a video creator.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I definitely didn’t get to the point I’m at now alone. My biggest mentor growing up was an artist by the name of Rapta. We met when I was 16 years old and was just starting my filming career. The two of us became best friends and have worked together since. He taught me a lot about the industry and life in general and has been a huge part of the person I am today. I’m also very thankful to be mentored by one of the greatest directors in the music video business, Edgar Esteves. When BIA & Russ shot their video for Best on Earth the now platinum hit song, BIA was nice enough to introduce me to Edgar which was a huge blessing. BIA is another mentor I’ve had in my life who has taught me nothing but great life lessons and how-to sustainability work in the industry. I’ve created a great friendship with all of these mentors as well and that’s what really makes each relationship so organic and real.
