Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharam Diniz.
Sharam, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started Sharam Hair back in 2016 in New York. As an African girl who started having issues with her natural hair at five, being “obligated” to relax her hair so young and at 15 wearing hair extensions for the first time and feeling the need of constant change as well as years later in the modelling industry a weave was an essential product in order to protect my own hair from damage. The amount of time I would spend at the hair salon was insane. Probably 8 hours or more for the whole process, that’s when the idea came into my mind. An easy and fun way of doing my hair, “wigs” sounded just fine.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all. I’ve been in the business world for about four years now and I’m still trying to figure out the best ways to promote and sell my own product. With the help of distant friends, I came across a few winning situations. But it is hard, since your closest friends always want your products for free or if they have to buy, they will buy from a stranger which until now I still do not understand but I decided to stop judging. It is a rollercoaster; some days are good others not so great. I feel that it is about me believing in the Premium product I have and studying different marketing ways to sell it. Especially now with this economic crisis all over the world.
Tell us more about the business.
Sharam Hair at the moment is mainly focused on bundles of weave, frontals, lace front and full lace wigs. Later on, my goal is to also provide a line of shampoos, conditioners, serums not just for wigs as well as natural afros. Our mission is to make women lives’ easier. Since we are always on the run and most of the time, our daily routine does not allow us to spend an entire day on a chair at the hairdresser. We also have colored products, different textures and hairstyles. It is important to mention that it is a fun “option” for every single girl/woman from different ethnicities. My biggest pride is to know that our products have an amazing quality, our feedback from the clients are always great and positive.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
That’s a hard question… I’m going to start with the bad, I must say that people believe and admire popularity and sometimes I felt that not having a huge platform with millions of followers or not being associated with “X” or “Y” person was bad luck. Nowadays and after watching “Self Made” on Netflix I believe that when your product is good that’s the best luck you can have. Everything else will find a way and follow with your hard work, dedication and some investment.
