Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Willberg.
Angelica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Ever since I was a little kid I’ve always been fascinated and interested in photography. I remember back to when I was around the age of five, I use to take my mom’s Canon 35mm point and shoot camera, way back in the day before digital cameras were popular, I use to run around and take pictures, having so much fun and I’ve loved it ever since. I remember the excitement back then, sending the roll of film for development and the anticipation of getting it back. As I got a little older, I got to use my own disposable cameras and I use to bring them with me a lot. It’s great how recently shooting film has made such a comeback because it’s just really something else and can’t be compared to digital. Still to this day, it’s so exciting waiting to get your negatives developed.
I’m originally from Sweden, now based in Los Angeles, California. Growing up, I come from an artistic family so I’ve always been around art. My mother is a painter and my brother are a musician and DJ. Creating and art is just in my blood. You can kind of say I’ve been shooting on and off since the age of ten, that’s when I got my first digital camera. This camera came with me everywhere. As I got older, I started to take photography more and more seriously and I studied photography back in Sweden as well as working as a photography assistant for several different photographers for about ten years. There were no questions about pursuing photography as a professional career. In 2018 I moved to Los Angeles to study and work with photography to develop my skills further and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Life itself is full of challenges. You’ve got to pave your own path which can be difficult and getting into the industry can be a crazy uphill battle. It’s a though business to get your foot into and it’s very competitive in Hollywood. People from all over the world come to this city to pursuit their dreams. It’s easy to fall off the wagon and get pushed around by others because there are opinions everywhere. It’s great to listen and learn from others, it’s important to draw knowledge from different places, but never get confused by what’s just someone’s opinion and what’s constructive criticism. You also have to be able to stand your grounds on your own belief in your art. I think it’s very important to be able to be extremely stubborn with your vision, because at the end of the day, it’s YOUR art.
Angelica Willberg Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a freelancing photographer based in Los Angeles, CA. I shoot all kinds of things, but I specializes in portraits and nature/landscape. It’s pretty easy taking a picture but there goes so much more into a great photo. I bring quality and authenticity into each and every project. A big part of my work is my love for post production. I love sitting in photoshop endless hours and just create fun crazy things that are mostly inspires by using a lot of color, really moody dark black and white pictures or psychedelic kind of vibes.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think success it combined with fierce determination, passion and hard work; with that you can accomplish anything. Raw talent alone is not enough. Success if a state of mind, which you only can judge yourself. Success is anything that fulfills me and to be able to show things that otherwise would go unseen.
