Meet Joe Aguirre of Zombie Cat Art in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Aguirre.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am originally from Palm Springs, California. I am a self-taught artist. In high school, I got my “first taste” of what art could do for my life when I was asked to create a pamphlet for a local flower shop. After high school, I decided to join the United States Army. I recreated our Company banner while stationed in Korea and deployed overseas in Kuwait and Iraq. After the military, I transitioned to civilian life. Through many trials and life experiences, I was always pulled back to my art. In November 2014, I participated in my very first successful art show at The Old Towne Pub in Downtown Pasadena, CA.

After that, I was blessed with many more art shows and events in and around Los Angeles. In March 2015, my art was featured in a short film, “Whittier Blvd”, which premiered at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. After being inspired by how well received my artwork was, I decided to establish myself as a businessman and artist. I continue to create art every day through creations of my own and commissioned pieces. I am extremely grateful to many of my friends and especially fellow artist Sammy Ruiz and dear friend Juan Martinez of “Tu Abuelita and Mercado Downey” for inspiring me and supporting my artistic journey.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I am extremely grateful that it has been a smooth road so far.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Zombie Cat Art – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
ZombieCat Art is run by myself and my significant other, Cabrini Torres. She is my right-hand woman. I create the art and she takes care of our online store and finances. We specialize in original custom art and one of a kind T-shirts, prints, stickers and candles. I am proud of our customer service and the positive feedback that we get from our wonderful customers and clients.

ZombieCat art is known for creating “Frankie Moz” which is a character inspired by Frankenstein’s monster and Morrissey. I refer to my art as “electric art”. I use the fusion of vibrant colors to create pieces inspired by horror movies and Tim Burton.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I would like to create Halloween themed books for children. I’d illustrate and write the books. I would also like to create an animated short that’s inspired by my art.
