Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Simon.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in a small town with a population of 1200 in the Midwest. I always dreamt of pursuing and becoming an actor as early as I could remember. When I turned 18, I made the decision of moving to Dallas, Texas immediately, where I began to learn the basic principles of life and acting. Staying in Dallas for only a short period of time, I quickly moved to Chicago and eventually Washington DC. I worked with and for many respected agents, production companies, and casting directories in each city, hoping to add value to their life’s work. Along my travels, I have been accompanied with many talented and wonderful individuals. I owe a majority of my success to my loved ones around me, for without the knowledge and advice, I would be stagnant. I actively take part in charity work and try to help my community as much afforded. I love life, every day is a miracle. It is hard to appreciate the journey in the moment, but if you take a step back and look at your endeavors from a 30,000 foot perspective, it is worth every memory.
I look to continue working in Los Angeles, connecting with other determined individuals.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been easy… Moving to four cities within four years can be tiring, especially at my age starting my travels at 18. You tend to realize that the world is not everything you thought it would be; money becomes a bigger issue, you invest more into relationships, and sometimes, no matter how hard you try, life has a funny way of cutting you short of the gold. I have had my fair share of sliced bread meals, broken hearts, and false promises. I have lost too many loved ones to heaven and the behavioral correction facilities. I hope I can make this world a better place.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an actor so I like to think of myself as the company or product itself. I have worked in many different genres in the industry. For example, I have done commercial and print work for companies such as “Apple”, “Target”, and others including “Dairy Queen” and “Quicken Loans”. I have been in several shows and films from American film to Bollywood film. In the most recent year, I have been modeling and have received more than five magazine editorials within 12 months. I currently work with Apollo Management (LA), Ambassador Talent (Chicago), Aston Models (LA).
I am proud of my work because I didn’t have anyone to show me where to start. When you want to achieve what seems to be an impossible goal, you have to allow yourself to become uncomfortable outside of your elements to truly grow as an individual. My family was never involved in the “Acting Industry” but continue to support. I took the chance of moving away from everyone I knew to achieve the impossible.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The acting industry is constantly changing. Current changes and trends that I am starting to see include more self-taping auditions, talent gaining momentum from followers online, and the easy access of self production.
Self Tapes: Usually, when you think of auditions, you think of a room full of people waiting nervously to mess up their lines for a career deciding casting director. Forget everything you know about auditing now. Self-tapes are becoming more and more popular due to many reasons. Besides your audition being super convenient to film anytime, some other reasons include Casting does not have time or access to seeing that many people audition or come through their office. Another reason self-tapes are becoming popular is because of the recent COVID-19 outbreak. Casting directors believe our safety and well being are more important than an in-person audition.
Online Presence: TV shows are always looking to make the biggest dollar bill and the easiest way to do that is to have marketable talent. Having a high follower presence on websites such as: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or even smaller platforms (TikTok, Pinterest, Tumblr) can be detrimental to having a successful career.
Self-Production: It is as easy as buying your own camera and watching a couple of hours worth of YouTube. More self productions are being submitted and recognized daily from huge networks. Any college film student can produce a short film and enter it for any festival, no matter the city. Self-production is surely to change industry. More genres of film will emerge, and different talent as well.
