Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Bryan.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I live in Los Angeles, CA originally from Sydney, Australia. My company is Bronzed Aussie.

My shop, Bronzed Aussie, in Downtown LA gives you the BEST cuisine Australia has to offer. Walk through my doors and you’ll be greeted by the sights and smells of a traditional Australian Pie Shop selling the iconic Aussie Meat Pies, Sausage Rolls, Fish & Chips, Lamingtons… YUM! The pie menu includes varieties of Beef, Lamb, Chicken, Vegan & sweet pies; Bronzed Aussie offers them all.

Not in the mood for pie? Grab some Sausage Rolls, Lamingtons or the oh-so-important Flat White Espresso. Australians are particularly fussy about their coffee. Bronzed Aussie has something for everyone! Australian pies are a fabulous on-the-go gourmet meal, you can grab them to go in your hand or stop in at the shop for a quick bite, simple, non-fussed, friendly.

My business is a genuine Australian Café offering a True Blue Aussie experience. Fair Dinkum!

As a shoe designer I moved from Sydney to Boulder, Colorado 10 years ago, after 2 years based there I relocated to LA to make shoes in Mexico. The day after my shoe designing contract was over I was craving comforts from home… I quickly realized America had a BIG problem. One thing was missing – a taste of Australia. I take so much joy in sharing my culture with my customers and I want to share my pies with everyone!

An Australian born & raised, Michelin star trained chef who won the Greencard Lottery answered my ad on Craigslist, recipes were created and the pie shop was born…

Rated #54 on Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat in 2015, Bronzed Aussie is clearly a culinary delight. Anytime you’re in LA stop in and say G’Day and enjoy an authentic taste of Australia! Cheers!!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Very bumpy ride! Initially I was very naive as I have no experience nor culinary expertise. I begin with huge confidence and had a few setbacks… I signed up for some big events and they didn’t pay off, also it’s hard to introduce a new food group to the USA without a healthy marketing budget. Downtown LA has its own challenges.

Mostly it’s been fabulous, with great support from local and touring Aussies including Hugh Jackman, Iggy Azalea and Barry Humphries amongst the most famous.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Wish I’d had an experienced mentor. Done more of the setting up procedures myself, not relied on a chef or third parties. Marketing from day 1.
