Meet Gil Gatsby of Different Cloth Music Group in South Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gil Gatsby.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Gil. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started this journey in music 21 years ago. My goal has always been to provide an alternative to the normal rhetoric that we’re accustomed to and provide a sound of hope, faith, and power.

In the earlier years, I found it difficult to be different, however, seeing the impact of the music and how I was able to interact and inspire my generation, I took that motivation and continued to create music that empowers and pushes my message to the masses.

Through that hard work and drive, I’ve been able to successfully sell and stream over six albums. I’ve traveled throughout the U.S and been featured in many magazines and various media outlets.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My biggest struggle has been finding the proper balance between maintaining a healthy family life, working a 9 to 5 and pursuing the music dream.

There were stretches along the way where I was unemployed which caused a strain on my family life by not being able to provide or properly invest to pursue the dream. However, God has always provided a way for me in those moments of struggle.

The most recent obstacle that threatened to derail my pursuit of success occurred two years ago when I suffered two strokes. I had lost all feeling in the right side of my body and lost my speech. This was a tough challenge, but I was determined to get back to work. The love of my wife nursed me back to health. God’s favor is major in my life.

Please tell us about Different Cloth Music Group.
Different Cloth Music Group specializes in inspiring people to leave a life of mediocrity and chase their dreams and goals and leave their mark in all that they do.

We achieve these goals through music, mentoring, and providing a platform for authentic feedback.

At this point, what I am most proud of is being able to share my testimony via multiple outlets spanning an online presence to television media.
Growing up in Los Angeles, you’re told that most men don’t make it to 21 years old. I have surpassed that prediction and impacted thousands of young individuals on a regular basis. That is a great accomplishment.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t necessarily look at my life as lucky. I feel that I was chosen to make an impact. Any setback or “bad luck” was designed to help me improve my business and help me reach a greater demographic.

There were many times when I wanted to quit and throw in the towel, but I used my shortfalls and losses to prepare for a comeback season. No luck, just favor from God to God to Win.
