Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Fierros.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I definitely started early. I was about six years old when the creative juices started flowing through me and I was building things with legos and drawing my own little comics because I was big into Spider Man. Then, as I grew older I picked up anatomy books to get better and started to teach myself everything I could after that. Taught myself everything I could up until college and got better at art forms such as oil and acrylic painting, ceramics, color pencil work, film photography, and even picked up sculpture!
Didn’t really get better at painting and such until high school, and it wasn’t until I got into college that I finally found my style and taste. Met a bunch of cool artists along the way and have a ton of artist friends as well. So I was almost always motivated at that point! I love working with color pencils/ink, oil painting, acrylic painting and sculpting when I can. That’s when I felt the most comfortable and felt as if I finally was getting better at this. I knew art is what I want to dedicate my life to. Then I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Arts from California State University of Los Angeles. I have displayed my art in several exhibitions in LA, I sell prints/original paintings and sculptures, and I plan on becoming an art teacher in the future.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, definitely wasn’t all that smooth. I started to distance myself from art because of my mental health and just couldn’t find my motivation anymore. I picked up skateboarding in middle school and would rather do that to occupy my mind instead of drawing. Of course, I was drawing still but not as much. I was known for being the artist in my classes growing up but I never put all my time into it. It wasn’t until I decided to skip skating one day and go to an after school program that my high school was offering and I remember the teacher hosting that program told me, “dude, you’re talented! Keep drawing; do something with this. You won’t make a lot of money, but you’ll be happy.” I remember laughing so hard after that and realized he’s right. Nothing made me happier than painting for hours and hours on end. I still have my days. It’s hard out here! But I try my best; I have a ton of support from all my friends and family so I’m thankful for that!
Slowburn Aka Jfierart – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I paint, I draw, I sell clothing and various merchandise with my original designs on it. For a few years, I’ve been specializing in Traditional Tattoo illustrations and making art/logos in relation to death and black metal. I’m proud of the simple fact that people support me and my work. There’s so much cool stuff out there but my friends and people support mine. That’s pretty rad, didn’t think as a kid that a hobby would get me this far. I think what sets anyone apart is the person making the art! Once people start connecting with you, people start liking your art.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Being able to graduate College, work with others, display my work, and continue making art thanks to ya’ll!
