Today we’d like to introduce you to Raykel and Larenz Tolson.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started Tolson Publishing in 2018 because I decided that writing was more than just a hobby for me. My son, Larenz, joined the company in 2019. We are a family business, and currently only publishes books that we write. Down the line, we will add other authors to our roster. Tolson Publishing was started to not only provide inspirational books to the world but to also establish a legacy for our family.
In addition to Tolson Publishing, I, Raykel, host a podcast, Blessed, and I have a spiritual coaching business, Blessed Mind Coaching, to help people to release negative beliefs that no longer serve them. Both of these ventures were birthed from my book, Why Are Church Folk Poor? Elevate Your Thoughts & Exercise Your Faith to Live an Abundant Life.
In addition to Tolson Publishing, I, Larenz, am a Sound & Style Coach and freelance engineer. I also work part-time for Delta Airlines which allows us to travel around the world promoting and selling our books.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Most start-up small businesses have a bumpy road. Our biggest hurdle to jump is to let the world know that Tolson Publishing exists and we have awesome inspirational books that will enlighten, encourage and entertain. Marketing on a small budget is common for small businesses, entrepreneurs and indie artists which is why Voyage LA is such a blessing.
Tolson Publishing – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Tolson Publishing publishes nonfiction and fiction that make you think about what you think about. We understand that what you think about you bring about. Our children’s books are Tolson Publishing’s way of developing resilient children in hopes to put an end to bullying and suicides related to bullying. We believe that resilience starts with a connection to God (Spirit/Source).
Raykel – My books, podcast, and coaching practice have the same goal of raising consciousness.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Selling lots of books, having bestsellers and making enough money to keep publishing Inspirational books are our goals. However, we define success by the impact we have on the lives of the people who read our books. If we are getting people to evaluate their thoughts, change beliefs that no longer serve them, and understand that we are all children of God, then we are successful. If we can keep just one child from committing suicide because he understands that it doesn’t matter what others say about him only what he says about himself, then we are successful.
