Meet Jamie Dubin of Harmonic Prana in Santa Clarita and San Luis Obispo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Dubin.

Jamie, before we jump into specific questions about the company, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As a highly sensitive and empathic person, I have always wanted to help people. I assumed I would be working in the medical field, so I was a caregiver for many years while I went to college to take my radiology tech prerequisites. Right around when I graduated, I came down with a mysterious illness. Although this created a lot of chaos in my life, it leads me to where I am today with my well-being and business. I was in such a tough spot with Lyme disease and ME/CFS, I was desperate to try anything that could help me find some peace and help me feel more comfortable in my body.

My massage therapist invited me to a sound healing and breathwork event. I could not believe the powerful mind-body connection that I felt. Although the illness is very physical, I could feel myself healing and dissecting the emotional aspects of it. When I could face my trauma and emotional work, I could focus more on what direction to go with my healing. The breathwork helped me breathe better, clear brain fog, and gain energy. The sound healing helped me feel clarity, grounded, and peaceful. Together, it created a perfect holistic aid to my healing.

As I got healthier, I took more and more training to hold sound healing and breathwork events. I have a set up of crystal bowls and other instruments that create harmonic tones to help soothe the nervous system and create a healing experience that is unique for everyone. I spent all last summer traveling California sharing this meditative modality at festivals and conscious gatherings. I share these workshops online, in the studio, one-on-one sessions, wellness retreats, and mental health centers. My goal is for everyone to have access to holistic modalities that help us tune within to find peace and presence.

This work has fulfilled my life and the lives of many others. There is nothing like seeing someone coming in with trauma, recovering from an illness, depressed, etc. and having an experience where they can meditate with strong vibrations, connect with their breath, and come out of the experience with guidance that can help them navigate their path. One of my biggest joys was having a weekly session for the last six months with someone that was diagnosed with cancer. I was able to be with her throughout her journey and hold space for her as she made peace with her experience. The soothing tones of the sound bowls helped ground her through chemotherapy and she still receives and enjoys the sound healing now that she is cancer-free! Although my path had some darkness getting to where I am, I wouldn’t trade it in for anything. Spreading these vibrations to a world that needs to take a pause and breathe is priceless and worth it all.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It can be tough to make a living as a sound healer and breathworker! It is very competitive and it can be easy to be dissuaded when there are low event turn outs. There were some points that I tried to overly control over my events by changing studios, prices, and promotional efforts. What I learned is that the more authentic I am, the more people can sense that realness and want to be with a sound healer that doesn’t spiritually bypass. I think my genuine care for others and my intention for healing over a “performance” helps people feel comfortable being in a vulnerable healing space with me. One of the hardest times is probably right now during the coronavirus outbreak. These events are dependent on people showing up. I will be launching online platforms and am seeing it as a blessing as people can be safe in their homes and still get the healing they need!

Please tell us about your company.
I specialize in alternative modalities for meditation and wellness. I help people reach meditative experiences using the vibrations from instruments (sound healing) and from guiding deep rhythmical breathing (breathwork). I hold these experiences in studios, homes, online, at corporate events, and just about everywhere. I often guide breathwork during the time I am playing instruments. When working, I can multitask and have attention to detail to ensure everyone has a nourishing and rejuvenating experience.

I work in a very trauma-sensitive way. I realize most people are walking around with heavy loads of trauma. Instead of giving everyone the same experience, I like to check in with where people are at and make sure they are taking gentle steps into their journey. I use trauma-sensitive words to err on the side of caution.

Because I have dealt with chronic illness, I know how to connect with others in a way that doesn’t spiritually bypass what they are going through. I try to empower them to connect with the realness of their experience, bring in compassion, and tune into presence through this meditative modality. As a company, I am proud of how many people I have been able to reach in such diverse settings, from libraries to festivals to mental health facilities and beyond!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as accomplishing my goals. I also see success as being compassionate and unifying. Success means getting a good idea out to the population that needs it, despite obstacles. Success is using the resources gained to get a product or idea out to the masses so that it can help out communities.
