Today we’d like to introduce you to Di’or.
Di’or, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m born and raised in Los Angeles between West Compton and Windsor Hills. I’ve always been a poet, I like to think of myself as a nondenominational artist because I choose to express in a plethora of ways. I learned how to stage build, edit and film from Los Angeles Film School but after years of working in the industry decided to follow my writing passions. I started doing poetry and eventually met a producer named Feefa who started my singing/songwriting path, I’ve just stuck to it. With my interior designing helping maintain my bills, I’ve been able to dedicate more time to creative endeavors. I always have had a way to take my internalized emotions and construct them physically, through writing, singing, fashion, drawing, painting, sculpting, dancing, etc. Most recently, I’ve developed my music productions, a band, and with another group of artistic creatives we’ve started to cultivate a homegrown concert party experience. I dabble in real estate so eventually, I will start hosting the event routinely at a set venue space native to the “Crenshaw District”.
Has it been a smooth road?
It really depends on the specific endeavor, certain things have come easy, like securing real estate and decorating it into a successful home sharing rental experience [Ellis House]. Other things like learning the ropes of marketing music, securing shows, monetizing creative direction for my music and songwriting has been a trial. As an independent artist securing the management part has been the most difficult but I think I’m getting better with building my team.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Ellis House story. Tell us more about the business.
DI’OR is who I am as a nondenominational artist I sing, I write, I speak words. I am very proud of my most recent release “Algorythm Hotline” produced with Retrospec in New York.
However, Ellis House is a brand/venue I’ve creatively designed that cultivates intimate events, caters to the culture, native artist, poets, and vendors. The idea is simple, eat healthily, drink merrily, enjoy thoroughly, & share genuinely. Great live entertainment, food, drinks and art. Ellis House is different because the brand is nothing without the collaborators, and the collective is really a powerhouse of artists that are multidimensional. Every collaboration we host in hopes to out-do our last. We’re constantly looking to evolve solely as a Los Angeles Native staple.
And let it be known due to the Corona Pandemic all Ellis House events have been postponed until respective notice.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
As an artist, I see myself being a very intimate artist, creating a unique live performance experience, successfully touring and licensing my music for TV, airlines, Starbucks playlist, etc. Eventually growing Ellis House to be a string of boutique hotels that specialize in locally sourced artists for live entertainment. In the next 5-10 years, I would like hostile houses that are in sisterhood of the boutique hotels to house the traveling indie artist on budgets throughout the United States.
