Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaliyah Muse.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m usually referred to as Aali. I am a 24 years old singer/songwriter born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. Performing Arts has always been something I’ve loved since I can remember. I began dancing/choreography at 11 years old and continued frequently until I was 17. I desired to express myself via multiple art forms. During my grade school years, I was involved in after-school programs which catered to my creative needs. I initially wanted to model, but a series of events in my spiritual life caused my attention to be put elsewhere. I decided I wanted to take music seriously at the age of 19 and since then, life has been fulfilling. After making the conscious decision to actively pursue music, my friend circle gradually changed and I began to see myself differently. I trained my mind to see and feel an expected positive outcome of whatever it was that I desired and most times not only did they show up in my experience but better than I visualized. Most of this journey seemed difficult but definitely worth it. I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the most talented musicians, songwriters, and entertainers in the industry. I’m extremely grateful for my life and the mind God gave me.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
For a few years, I struggled with being booked for anything because of my lack of self-confidence and other subconscious thoughts that caused me to bring undesired people/experiences in my life. If I was presented with some of the opportunities I’ve received when I wanted them, I would’ve blown it completely lol. Things got easier after I accepted God’s view of me and when I say, “God”, I’m referring to Jesus.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a singer, songwriter, model, and actress. People usually know me for one or the other never for both and hopefully that changes soon. I do a lot of background vocals for artists, usually in Rap or R&B. I worked with Alicia Keys, Kanye West, YBN Cordae, Terrace Martin, and more. Aside from my collaborative work, I am an indie artist and I’ll be releasing my newest single, “Goldie”, March 9th available on all platforms. I was recently signed as a model in December 2019 with EMG Models and everything is happening for me just the way I envisioned it. As a model, I’ve worked for Facebook, Usher, Alicia Keys, Lil Uzi Vert, Goldlink, etc. I’m grateful for these opportunities and honestly have found comfort in knowing that nothing that is mine will ever pass me up. Often times I think in audition settings casting directors are looking to see if you’re confident in your skin. For the first time in my life I’m in a space where I like and love myself. I don’t feel like I have to hide fragments of myself. I believe these things are noticeable on an individual.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I definitely have. My circle of close friends who happen to be artists as well. They keep me grounded and remind me fear is only an illusion. Kaye Fox, vocal producer extraordinaire among other things, has been a huge influence for me. She taught me how to accept myself. Nadyne Hicks, Screenwriter and my mother in another life. She always reminds me to breathe in my new life and to keep everything light. While working with Kanye, I was privileged to be under Steve Epting’s leadership. After working with Steve, I understood what humility looked like up close. He executes creative ideas with excellence and taught everyone he worked with to do such. He’s a phenomenal human being. There are so many people that have inspired me, this would be a tedious read if I continued so I’ll lock it in here.
