Meet Erika Laney of Eureka Hair & Cosmetics in View Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Laney.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Erika. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started this journey of creating products officially/professional about four years ago. I made and mixed products for my family and friend years before that because products that were on the market just didn’t work for me. I then Realize that my friends & family were experiencing the same thing. I would make and sell them my homemade products. In 2015, I decided to take thing more seriously with the products & learn more about hair. So I enrolled myself into a cosmetology school Universal college of Beauty. Which taught me the ends and outs of ingredients how they react to our hair and skin, also how to style hair. The goal was to learn everything I can to make great products! A few heavy hitters came from my school like Kim Kimble who is one of the top black women in the hair industry. After schooling and receiving my Cosmetology license I started the hunt for a cosmetic Laboratory to start creating In bulk and bottling products!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Creating your own Business is never a smooth road! There are always hidden challenges and struggles that you have to deal with. Some of my biggest struggles is financing the company. Creating a company isn’t cheap here in California. Creating a product line can cost a lot. Also, there is always a mental challenge that comes with creating a band/business with feeling support or thinking things are moving to slow or failing and losing everything you put into the company.

Eureka Hair & Cosmetics – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company is a growing hair & cosmetic brand. That caters to the health of your hair, skin & nails. Currently, we are focusing mainly on hair but there is a huge plan for so much more! I’m currently known for my hair styling & our signature deep conditioner treatment. It is a company that to making texture hair healthy do it can reach its best potential. In the urban community we don’t have anything like that on the market or at least not much like that on the market there’s a lot of products that are created for us by people that don’t have our texture of hair or works much with our texture of hair from relaxed hair to curly to kinky!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is seeing my clients/ customers reach their hair goals & knowing that I was able to help with that.
