Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Bass.
Samantha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I got started after wanting to get into the music industry. Seeing as I had no musical talent, I opted for something I already knew the basics to: photography. After taking a few classes in high school, I had a small idea where to start and some editing software already downloaded. It’s thanks to local bands such as Rival Tides and Eye The Realist that I could test out my craft and become knowledgable about the industry.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One of the biggest struggles has definitely been the need for validation. The music photography community (in Los Angeles especially) can feel a little cliquey. Without the Instagram likes or followers, it sometimes feels like things aren’t going the way they’re supposed to. It can definitely also harbor some imposter syndrome. However, four years in the industry taught me that everyone feels this way. No matter how many followers someone has, a lot of people have felt like they have plateaued, they aren’t good enough at keeping up with trends, or simply not getting enough likes.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Samantha Paige Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a live music and events photographer. I’m known for my sharp and colorful images, and my bee backpack, Benedict. What sets me apart from the rest are my fast turnaround times and unique tones. I’m most proud of how quickly I’ve grown.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck definitely matters. Seeing the job posting first, posting the right photo at the right time (to gain recognition from your favorite band) and meeting the right people at the right times. However, talent and creativity aren’t lucky things, you have to have the vision to create amazing photos.
