Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Carothers.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I was younger I always had this set concrete idea of what my life was going to look like, until I was just completely wrong 🙂 If I were to look back to my 14 years old self, I do not think I would have even imagined this is where I would be decades later. It really all started with a sewing class I took when I was 18, from there I found my love for creating – actually turning something nothing into a tangible thing. Which then lead to attending Clark Atlanta University and studying fashion design and PR. From there, I studied fashion business and design in Milan, which lead to moving to you New York right after college and landing the big corporate job in Advertising at Ralph Lauren. That is where I discovered who I really was as I slowly got into my career and understood what I really wanted to do – I loved what I did but my goals were to be Mr. Lauren and not work for him lol.
I worked in Advertising Production and at the time of the high demand of printed ads, managed photoshoots and image licensing. I worked many other amazing life-changing corporate jobs, but I always had this desire that I was supposed to be doing more for people and bigger purpose. So following careers moves from Warby Parker and Refinery29, I made the big leap and started operating my business. So today, I am operating a creative conscious agency with global clients and projects. The goal and purpose of AWP is for people, products and brands to realize and operate to their fullest capabilities – breathing life into products and experiences from ideation to execution. AWP likes to specifically create campaign and initiatives that will potentially change lives for the better and make the world a better place.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge as a small business owner is the challenge of self you face daily. 1) You have to release the perfectionist in yourself a lot because you will never get anything done. 2) You have to know when to say yes and when to say no. So the road to growth and develop is always going to have lots of learning, but firm believer that everything happens for a reason – and sometimes just simply to learn from it and move on. So yes, the road is not always smooth and no matter the experience or growth, there are always going to be challenges, but your mindset is what you have to really focus on to maintain sustainability. Keeping yourself grounded in who you work with, how you decide to spend your hours each day and prioritizing your physical and mental health.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about All Worthy People – what should we know?
We creative execution companies are popping up more and more everyday, which is great and means that people are still craving and in tune to real life experiences and connecting on emotional level with what they consume in. All Worthy People is a conscious creative agency, honing in on people, brands and products that impact, shift the world and the energy in it. I am the founder and Principal Creative and Producer of AWP.
We are known for building communities through impactful experiences and furthermore understanding the emotional connection people have to the things they consume. For example, we worked with Brickell City Centre and Albie Alexander for Art Basel this past year, for an immersive installation CONVERSATIONS WITH NATURE and brought the elements to life through production and creative execution. This project was important to us because it examined the deep connection with the natural world through introspective experiences that invited visitors to engage in a deep dialogue with the environment. Themes of activism and healing permeated the exhibition, which explores resonances of mindfulness in an effort to develop new understandings of ourselves and achieve new visions of the future we want. (Photo pictured was inside of the installation by Basia Goszczynska, Legacy Oasis, a space with the Centre that drew attention to microplastic pollution and our habits of wastefulness. The work questions the value of waste products, environmental interventions, and “pristine” landscapes…and 6 tons of sand! photo cred: @countmichael)
