Meet Ayisat Adelakun of LashBae By Ayisat

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ayisat Adelakun.

Ayisat, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Houston raised in Los Angeles. I’m a graduate of Fisk University! Coming from a half Nigerian background, education was a priority in my family so going to college and getting a degree was a must. After graduating, I moved to Atlanta then within a few years decide to come back home to Los Angeles to open my salon/barbershop “Visible Transformations” with my family. We had a good five years run then decided to close. It’s crazy because hair was my first love, but I always had a strong interest in makeup artistry. I’ve really been drawn to all things beauty related. So after I got my degree, I fully tapped into my creative side and got straight to it. I did skip cosmo school and became self-taught. I’ve been so blessed to be where I am today! It all happened so fast to be completely honest. I didn’t expect to advance in my career so quickly. I’ve done makeup for celebrities such as Janice Dickinson, Justine Simmons, Ava DuVernay, and Omarion just to name a few.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been smooth but most definitely a bumpy road, a road I needed to go down to get to where I am today! I was managing at two huge well-known makeup companies and unexpectedly got let go from one, which was bittersweet. I was in a space where I was grateful for the opportunities but knew deep down that my journey with the company was and needed to come to an end. I realized I liked being my own boss and it was time to be a “boss bae” and run my own business once again! Had it not happened, I doubt “LashBae By Ayisat” would have even been birthed. There wouldn’t have been time. I had to be put in an uncomfortable position to end up coming out on top!

I remember telling my boss at the first makeup company that I worked for that I wanted to start my own cruelty-free eyelash line. It was something that we didn’t carry and wasn’t on the market at all really. She was so encouraging and supported my idea. Years later, who would have known I would have pulled it off! When I launched “LashBae By Ayisat” on June 19, 2019 she was one of the first people to congratulate me and reminded me of our conversation. LashBae was clearly years in the making. I just needed to put some action behind the idea and it took me getting let go from my second job for it to come to life. Once I had no 9 to 5 and was strictly just freelancing on my own doing different makeup gigs, I had extra time on my hands and got straight to it! It wasn’t easy to find a 100% cruelty-free eyelash vendor. After months of sampling different lash vendors and thinking I found the one, it turned out to be a bust! I was devastated and feeling defeated, so much money wasted as well as my time, but I didn’t stop. I kept going. I finally found a vendor that was 100% cruelty-free, with good quality.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with LashBae By Ayisat – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
LashBae By Ayisat is a 100% cruelty-free 3D & 5D mink strip eyelash company. Our lashes can be worn to up to 30 wears. Our lashes are durable and semi-waterproof which is what sets us apart from other lash companies. Most lashes on the market cannot stand to get wet or they are ruined! Not LashBaes! We also are known for our unique lash names ending in “Bae”!, “Make Me Bae”, “Tease Me Bae” and “Naturally You Bae” are a few of our top-selling lashes. They come packaged in a cute magnetic box and you get a cute holographic makeup bag if you buy two or more pairs! I am most proud of the overwhelming customer response in such a short time after LashBae launched. I’ve done pop-ups at local events in the city such as Taste of soul, for the culture biz expo, the Manhattan Village fall into beauty event, and in Houston at the pool of life church. Glamour, quality, innovation and style are promises LashBae by Ayisat will always deliver on. Lashes are the connector of beauty. Creating a happy ending that makes people feel beautiful is my goal! I love to see the transformation in people after the lashes have been applied. They feel confident inside & out. Try a pair of LashBaes for yourself and step up your eye glam. You won’t be disappointed.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
To continue growing my company by doing some of the big trade shows such as IMATS, beautycon, etc. I want to share LashBae By Ayisat with world. Investing in being apart of these shows can for sure help do that! But I’ll also continue to do makeup and personal beauty consulting for people. This revitalizes me, keeps me in touch with what people want, and reminds me why I do what I do.
