Meet Lars Dennert of Sole Searchers Dive Club in San Gabriel Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lars Dennert.

Lars – please share the Sole Searchers story with us.
Sole Searchers Dive Club, Inc. is based in Pasadena, CA. We are a Scuba Diving and recreational club with members in the San Gabriel Valley area. We originally started as a Sport Chalet dive club and offshoot from JPL divers in the early 1990’s, Later we split off as a Non-Profit Mutual Benefit California Corporation, we are an easy-going group that enjoys the company of adventurous people. Monthly we have a meeting at El Torito with interesting speakers from the dive industry and all things ocean. Our events include monthly beach and boat dives, beach BBQ’s, weekend camp and dive events, and at least one resort trip per year to either the south pacific or Caribbean.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Running a recreational club is a delicate thing. People have enough stress in their lives that they don’t need it when it comes to their free time. A fun environment is key to keeping divers engaged. Scuba Diving is a demanding sport with a steep learning curve and great physical demands. New divers are often intimidated, especially as southern California conditions can be challenging. Having a group that supports each other makes for a more successful and safer diving experience.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sole Searchers Dive Club, Inc. – what should we know?
We are there to promote diving, education and friendship. More than twenty years of success in the San Gabriel Valley where other clubs and dive shops have come and gone is a testament to our staying power and recipe for fun.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
People. We are nothing without good people. Our group is diverse. We have photographers, videographers, avid boat and beach divers as well as hunters.
