Today we’d like to introduce you to Taysha Carroll.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Taysha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 2009 it was difficult for me to find a job that I was actually interested in. I knew that if I entered the workforce with a position that didn’t help maintain my inner peace that I would have a bad relationship with career-driven goals in the future. During my time of unemployment, I stayed busy by doing DIY projects and organizing my parent’s home.
That’s when it came to me… I’m good at creating and organizing! With that realization, I decided to create my own company and offer home organization services & retail store merchandising to the greater New York and New Jersey. I was successful for a few months, however a huge fashion retailer who I had been wanting to work for offered me a full-time position so I chose stable income instead. Fast forward to my move to Santa Monica, California in 2015… the ‘pay for daily tasks’ capital of the country! Adrienne Bailon- Houghton & Julissa Bermudez, long time family friends, were such a huge supporters of my talent for creating organized spaces and bringing inner peace to their homes that they began promoting my services. Their encouragement and my desire to become an entrepreneur again provoked me to officially relaunch my company (under a different name) in early 2019. Welcome to the editor!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey thus far has been touch and go, but the challenge has been self-inflicted. If I can give one piece of advice to women out there it would be to network and promote themselves tirelessly. The journey is so much harder if you try to tackle it alone. Don’t be afraid to speak out loud about your talents and your goals because you never know if that person you randomly spoke to can help expedite your vision.
What should we know about the Editor? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
At the editor we offer home edit and organization. Given my background in fashion, closet edits and organization is what I specialize in and are also known for. In addition to closets we also service kitchens, garages, bathrooms, you name it! The primary goal of our service is to create an easy to manage organizational system which can lead to a clear mind.
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
The biggest barrier for female leadership is society’s doubt that we can manage home and career life simultaneously and successfully. A popular African proverb says it takes village to raise a child. I’m hoping that I can be apart of that village for the modern living woman by creating organization within their home.
