Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessika Carter-Ross.
Jessika, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My name is Jessika Carter-Ross and I am the owner of Madam J. We specialize in jewelry, cosmetics, body care, skincare and fragrances. I completed the Fashion Industry Essentials Certificate program from Parsons School of Design to help further my skill set. My approach to jewelry making is from a fashion perspective. I study trends and fashion news to portray into my jewelry designs. Madam J Beauty is an extension of my parent company and it encompasses natural beauty products.
After five years of working as a beauty advisor, I realized just how toxic the ingredients of these major beauty brands were. These products can really be detrimental to our health. I decided to get in my kitchen and test out beauty products including cosmetics, body care, skincare, and most recently fragrances. All products are vegan, handmade, and created using natural ingredients. I go through an extensive process to ensure my products are top-notch. I also didn’t want to compromise vibrancy or moisture and I’ve found a way to keep both of those intact. My motto is “bettering the community through better for you products.” Madam J is here to enhance the beauty that’s within you!
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. I started this business in June 2017. Within months of starting this business, I was ready to give up because I wasn’t making sales and stores weren’t willing to carry my products. Some people said my prices were too high and some said they were too low. I got really discouraged and didn’t understand what my purpose was.
One day, a large company by the name of Quirk Hotel agreed to carry my products. I knew I had to keep working. I knew somebody needed my products. I’m still working to reach my goals but year after year, I am amazed by the progress I have made. Not only do I have an online presence, but I sell my products in five stores. My advice is to keep pushing and to document your journey. Every time I look back through photos I am shocked at where I have come from.

Madam J specializes in handmade jewelry, cosmetics, body care, skincare and fragrances. The products my brand is most known for is our Shea Soufflé moisturizers, Miracle Toning Mists, Vegan Lipsticks, Healing Salves and Liquid Hand Soaps. As a company, I am most proud of our perseverance. Despite any doubts or rejections, we always keep going and make the best of our situations.
What sets us apart with our jewelry is that we focus on statement earrings that truly set off any look. What sets us apart with our beauty products is the fact that our products are handmade, vegan and natural. We use ingredients that not only make you feel good but make you look good. Everything we make is tested extensively and actually produces results. We’ve even been told our Miracle Toning Mist has cleared up our customers’ acne in just TWO days!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I absolutely love LA! I love that you can see the mountains and the beach all in one setting. I love that it rarely ever rains and there’s always people around. I love the food and the environment. I also like that there’s always something to do. Definitely a favorite!
The only complaints I have about LA is the traffic and the cost of living. It’s definitely a great place to be!
