Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Zhang.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Chelsea. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I became a foodie since I was in Singapore ten years ago, I love to eat and have passion for foods. But I didn’t blog anything until I started to use Instagram around one year ago, actually just for fun and recording my dining experience.
It is a very simple but wonderful platform to make friends and post pictures & videos. I don’t even know I could go this far but foods make me here. That’s a brief story. For the past seven years, I keep searching and trying at least 3-4 new restaurants every week, yelp is always my best friend. Cause my work is very flexible and I have to meet my clients every day from different parts of LA. That’s why I have time to explore more spots. Food has no bond and it brings me so much luck and also real friends. Every day is a foodie adventure for me.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never been a smooth road. Firstly, As I mention, Blogging is my hobby, not business. That means I have to balance my daily life. Like I cannot arrange more than two tasting events every day. Also, I am a picky eater, I choose very carefully and I don’t blog anything that I won’t eat. Besides that, I want to spend time on my family during weekends. That’s why I missed a lot of events.
Secondly, I’ve been to so many food tasting events either organized by social media agency or I reached restaurants directly. Most of time are very successful. But sometimes if wrong communication happens between agency and restaurant, then it will be a disaster. Like what happened to me recently, I wasn’t told to try their new menu from one restaurant, so I ordered signature & special menu items as usual. Cause I want to introduce my audience to all the popular foods from them.
But the chef wanted me to feature all the new dishes. Then it came out unexpected and bad service. I suffered black eyes form the server. That never happened in my whole life. So I wrote a one-star review regarding to that, later the restaurant owner keeps attacking me through yelp, Instagram and Facebook. He called me Freeloader and spoiled kids… You can tell how hard it is and I have to face a lot of those kinds of issues. I felt so sad and frustrated with this. But this is life, right?! I realize that being a foodie is never an easy role.
Anyway, thanks for letting me express my feelings here. I will keep telling the truth. That’s what I should do as a blogger.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
Personal blogger. In the future, Nothing will be changed. I’ll keep posting pictures/videos related to food and fashion, as well as Traveling. Travel for food, and food is another way of fashion.
As I said, I always have passion to do so. But maybe I’ll open a YouTube channel or Vlog later on. Depends on how much time I have.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
For me, as a food blogger, posting nice pictures and feature delicious & trendy foods are the most important part of my Instagram page. That’s why I keep attracting more followers.
But looks colorful doesn’t mean tastes good. So I am very strict with the items I picked. They should be popular but must be tasty. So I always spend a lot of time on selecting the items that I need to feature and setting the table. Also, the clothes I wear must be suitable for every business.
Success is a simple word, but the effort I put behind the screen is the key point.
