Meet Aaronica Cole of The Crunchy Mommy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaronica Cole.

Aaronica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Let’s see… where to begin! The Crunchy Mommy is an online publication that serves as a practically green guide for millennial moms on the go. I’ve been blogging since 2006 and I started out on MySpace–yes, with Tom ha! I’ve had a couple other sites but after having my second child, I decided that I would leave the corporate world to write full time.

So why The Crunchy Mommy? This is a question I’m always asked. When I had my daughter, some of my friends had kids around the same time. As we dealt with things like congestion, ear infections, etc, I would share some of my more holistic solutions that worked for them. I didn’t see black women in the green/eco-friendly space sharing information about attachment parenting, natural solutions, etc. so I became that.

This was in 2015. Now almost five years later, my site is award-winning and serves as a resource.

Has it been a smooth road?
Oh definitely not smooth! People think that entrepreneurship is you getting to work in your jammies all day and do whatever you want when you want. It’s not until THIS year that I’ve finally stopped working all the time.

In fact, after my first year of doing this full time, I didn’t turn a profit and we couldn’t afford to pay rent. But my family is surrounded by loved ones who had our back. I wanted to give up but right after not being able to pay rent, I started turning a profit. We moved to someplace that was more affordable as I continued to build my business (and our family) which made things easier for us.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
The Crunchy Mommy is an eco-friendly family lifestyle blog that is dedicated to teaching, sharing experiences, and creating a community for moms who are wanting to do things differently for their families while serving Mother Earth. I specialize in parenting topics, the gentle green movement, holistic remedies and authentic living.

I’m most proud of the lives that we’ve touched. While it’s money that pays the bills, it’s the messages that I receive about how something has helped a parent out that keeps me running.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
We’re totally based online and love this. It means that we’re accessible to everyone!
