Today we’d like to introduce you to Revecka Jallad and Dieter Hsiao.
Revecka and Dieter, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Revecka- I started off in fashion when I was 17, it was the love for magazines like Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and V magazine that initially got me interested in fashion. However, once I started attending The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising I became passionate about fashion marketing, and consumer behavior becoming my particular area of expertise. I started pursuing my career in fashion when I was 18 by managing my first luxury retail store selling high-end women’s suits in Beverly Hills. I was also styling fashion shoots, all while going to school full-time. I feel that this experience has been critical to any of my future successes. I’ve just been working really hard from a young age, and that momentum is what led me where I am today.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Revecka – The road has definitely not been smooth but it’s been worth it. One notable challenge I face on a daily basis is working within two very rapidly changing industries like digital marketing and fashion. I continually and consistently work harder and be better than I was yesterday. Staying current with two rapidly evolving industries and finding a way to apply new technology, ideas, and market research into the digital strategies we execute.
When you have to work with such speed you don’t have time to dwell over day-to-day challenges. We have to adapt very quickly and let’s just face it, life happens. We all have our personal struggles, and as a mother, wife, entrepreneur, and creative professional- I’m constantly switching modes and juggling my priorities. It’s challenging at times, but it allows me to do all the things I love the most in life so I embrace it all and am thankful for our accomplishments and setbacks. At the end of the day what makes us all stronger than the day before is to constantly remain in a state of focus and learning. Doing this allows me to absorb new valuable information for my own businesses, and for our clients.
Dieter – It definitely hasn’t. I’ve learned from my experience in building businesses from the ground up in the past 20 years. You need the hard skills and industry knowledge, but more importantly, you need the right mindset, an extreme amount of self-belief, a clear vision on where you are going, mental fortitude to deal with failures and setbacks, and the work-ethic to execute your business game plan relentlessly.
As for DIVISA, Revecka and I took the time to learn about our target market, and found out what exact problems businesses struggle with. Then we developed solid, well-fine-tuned solutions that solved those problems. The next issue we discovered is that average fashion brands, except for the really big ones, are lagging way behind the digital marketing technology curve. True, they’ve been engaging in some sort of e-commerce, digital advertising and social media, but they’re doing so without understanding how these methods actually work. Many of these brands are frustrated figuring out how digital marketing works and how to get good ROI from digital.
It’s also not helping at all, that the digital marketing industry is plagued with fly-by-nighters, individuals and companies that are the least qualified people on the planet to talk about digital marketing, let alone provide digital marketing services. Most of these people have no real experience in digital marketing and branding, have never built a successful brand online, have never made a substantial amount of money online, nor have they ever been involved in large digital marketing projects that justify them selling digital marketing services to anyone.
A part of what we spend most of our time on in our business is educating our target market and clients on true digital marketing and branding, what it is, how it really works, and how to harness its full potential to help them take their fashion business to the next level.
