Today we’d like to introduce you to Donzelly.
Donzelly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I never planned on pursuing music. As a kid, I told my family I wanted to be an author. In hindsight, some people would say I am an author because of how I tell stories through my music. Layne Bracy is the person that brought me around recording equipment. I tagged along with him to a local studio out of someone’s garage. As I seen other young people like myself making music and having fun I thought to myself “fuck it! I can do this to” the rest was history.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Has it been a smooth road? Definitely not. They say “nothing worth having comes easy”, and looking back on the years it definitely hasn’t. The hardest part for me pursuing music is the constant mental battle I have against myself. I find myself constantly questioning every step I take. The weight of checking your every step and trying not to make mistakes along the way is draining. I haven’t thought about quitting yet, so I guess I’m not at my breaking point lol.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
What sets me apart? It may sound corny, or generic or whatever you want to call it, but to me what’s sets me apart is that there is only one me. That in itself is already setting me up to be great. I know I’m authentic. I don’t portray anything I’m not. I stand firm in who I am, and can’t be persuaded to conform to any “standards”.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work.
