Today we’d like to introduce you to Lena Strothe.
Lena, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I moved to Los Angeles, I was overwhelmed by the amount of talent and creativity one could tap into for the right project, the right story. As I climbed my way up the severely humbling ranks of the entertainment industry, eventually landing what some might consider a dream producing gig with an office literally overlooking the Walk of Fame, I occasionally lost sight of what I moved here for in the first place. When you’re bogged down by the every-day stress that comes with production life, client demands, and pressing deadlines, it’s easy to become more than a little disenchanted. I knew I needed a change. I knew how many exciting projects were out there, I wanted to feel passionate again and wanted to connect with new people in my field. I also knew so many others in our industry who felt the same way. This is where the concept for “Wrangle” was born!
I met with an old friend and talented software engineer, Philip Brown, and pitched him on the idea of an invite-only online resource for professionals in creative fields. “Wrangle” would be a place where producers or clients could find the right talent to bring their vision to life, and freelancers could find exciting new opportunities. Three years later, I’m happy to say we have built a community that provides just that.
Has it been a smooth road?
There are always struggles in building something new! Ultimately I really believe in this idea and genuinely want to find a way to support other creatives. That consistently gives me the determination to push forward. Having a business partner has also proven to be absolutely crucial. Philip is not just a gifted programmer and co-founder, but also a great friend, so bouncing ideas off of him and coming up with solutions together makes working on “Wrangle” fun.
Please tell us about Wrangle. What should we know?
“Wrangle” is an invite-only platform that gives media professionals the tools to work and hire with confidence. Whether you’re looking to hire talent or showcase yours, our vetted network helps you stay focused on what you’re best at, creating something amazing. Our members work in a variety of media-related fields, from TV to Print to Features to Podcasts.
But beyond just offering connections, we also have a whole host of project management tools that we are very excited about. Users can build schedules, negotiate rates, group message their team, select from kit items, send out job blasts, and so much more. It was very important that we give members a seamless workflow from booking through project completion. At the end of each collaboration, we collect feedback from users to make sure the next project is even smoother!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I’ve always loved storytelling. Growing up, Los Angeles symbolized a place where people came together to bring their stories to life. I still find that to be the most thrilling thing about LA, and the reason it’s a great home base for “Wrangle.”
