Meet Bianca de la Garza of BDG Beauty in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca de la Garza.

Bianca, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
At 19, I began reporting on television and my journalism career would span almost two decades and take me coast to coast covering the major stories of our time. I eventually became an anchor and traveled around the globe covering international events from 9/11 to the Royal Wedding and the church abuse crisis. After 20 years, I left corporate America and the 24-hour news cycle to become an entrepreneur. I started a production company and our first project was my late-night show BIANCA. We ran in 20 million homes across the U.S., garnered Emmy nominations and even beat Saturday Night Live at times in the ratings. I was the first woman in late night at the time… 2015.. but I knew interviewing celebrities was not my end game. After two successful seasons, I left New York and started spending more time in Los Angeles. I had lived here twice before in my 20’s and was ready to be back on the left coast, looking for some new inspiration.

It was 2016 and I was trying give my skin a break between TV projects. I was now producing international formats and no longer under the daily scrutiny of high definition cameras. While I didn’t want to go out barefaced, foundation was too heavy and tinted moisturizers too greasy. I had been unkind to my skin over the years by wearing lots of pore clogging products on camera. I didn’t baby my face and it had taken a toll. Plus, we are all so busy it’s hard to commit to lengthy and expensive skincare regimes. I realized it was time to create a simple, vegan, non-gmo, quality skincare product fused with makeup. When I tried highlighters, they were all way too sparkly for a daytime, all-over application. I wanted my skin to have a natural gorgeous glow. They also didn’t give any skincare benefit to my face. That’s when I created In GLO We Trust. I felt if anything was worth applying to my face it needed to do double duty as a treatment. I’ve packed my products with preventative active ingredients that multitask while you just go about your day! My exclusive BDG Beauty Complex TM will improve prior skin damage and prevent and combat further issues. We offer instant benefits and long-term skin pampering with cutting edge, premium ingredients.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Bringing a product to market can be a long and involved process. I had tried so many products over the years that I knew whatever had to deliver results. It was about efficacy and quality. As a result, I kept tweaking my formulas with my team in California and hand-selected ingredients that go into our exclusive proprietary BDG Beauty Complex TM. In addition to what’s inside making sure our applicators were just as high quality and unique. I source some from France and they offer a massage as you apply and activate the creams.

I guess my challenge was being a perfectionist but it’s worth it. It took multiple labs and tries to get the right formulas. At times I wondered if anyone would be able to make what I envisioned. Lots of trial and error and dealing with less than honest vendors who simply want to take your money and not give you what they claimed they would do for you. Funny how the beauty industry really has an ugly side and until you enter into the game of manufacturing would have no clue how unscrupulous people are. Formulas that cost 2- 3 dollars can command upwards of 100.00 plus due to marketing. The claims on active ingredients are not always honest. The end customer has no idea about how they are taken at times. That was not a company I would ever be.

Now, years of being in this industry, I believe we’ve created a revolutionary line that also speaks directly to our consumer. She is a woman who wants to define beauty for herself and not allow mass media to define it for her because she trusts her inner glow. Also, as a mom, I want that message of inclusivity and compassion to be heard as we usher in a new era for beauty.

When Forbes wrote I was “Redefining Female Beauty” it was really rewarding to know the message was being heard. Since then, Refinery29 called us a “LATINX Brand to get behind” and we were chosen by NBC’s TODAY Show as a favorite thing of Kathie Lee and Hoda Kotbe. So the bumps in the road are something that just are part of the process and can not deter you.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with BDG Beauty – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
The BDG Beauty “In GLO We Trust” collection is a carefully curated selection of beauty formulations that deliver immediate visible results while providing long-term skincare benefits. Packed with potent high quality, clinical strength, active ingredients that provide long-term youth-boosting benefits to the skin. All Vegan, phthalate free, sulfate-free, non-GMO ingredients, no parabens, made in the USA.

Over the years, I’ve spent a lot of money on products and done crazy things to try and look good. I think we’ve all tried endless items searching for the best products. I was looking for something that could be an effective solution. When I didn’t find what I needed, I decided to create it myself. That’s why I created a cosmetics line that simultaneously enhances a woman’s inner glow while treating her skin at the same time.

Traditional beauty companies will tell people about all their flaws and the ten products they need to buy, and once they buy them, they’re going to be beautiful. I think we need to flip that and change that. We need to tell people you’re good enough already, if you want to enhance what you have, terrific, but we’re not coming at you saying ‘do all this, do all that and then you’ll be happy’.

We have to start shifting into a place of inclusivity. We have to start letting people, especially my daughter’s generation, not feel that they have to conform to the beauty standards set by mass-media that do not reflect or represent the real human race. Unlike other beauty brands, we at Bianca de la Garza Beauty believe that ‘less is more and you are enough’ and our products are inspired by this idea.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We just launched our first color cosmetic item- a vegan lip gloss trio sold in a compact re-sealable pouch. Like other BDG Beauty products we think of the modern woman on the go and her needs. Beauty should be fun and simple. My pal Paulina Madrazo collaborated on this collection with me, you may know her from her hit tv show “Mexican Dynasties”. We designed three colors we think are all you need…nude, red and pink. Then the real fun twist is their flavors. Being Latinas we selected some of our favorites- eggnog horchata, red apple margarita, peppermint sangria. This was really fun to create this and I think it’s just the start of BDG beauty and color.

I’ll be heading to the Middle East and Europe in early 2020 to discuss some new projects so you can expect some new and exciting announcements from us this year. Looking at beauty from a global standpoint allows BDG Beauty to connect cultures and be a brand that truly is for women of the world. I’m looking forward to being a part of the movement I see happening- the democratization of beauty.
