Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Tran.
Brittany, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Brittany Tran, founder and chief strategist at Good Hause, a creative agency based out of Los Angeles. Through Good Hause, I hope to reinvent and build upon my earlier success as a television producer to focus on female-led businesses and forward-thinking brands. Good Hause was inspired by The New Woman, a concept founded in the 19th century to represent a new era of womanhood. Fierce independence, a one-of-a-kind style, fighting day in and day out to be the woman that those who came before her only dreamed of being.
There are traces of her story within my own. I was born in Vietnam, immigrating to Houston in the 90s with my family due to the fall of Saigon. I knew that to honor those who came before me, I must march to the beat of my own drum and, just like The New Woman, fight for a life that is mine. I left Houston on a whim — booked a one-way ticket midway through university and moved across the world and back to my homeland, Vietnam. Vietnam is where I grew as an individual; my life, career, love, creativity, friendship all blossomed during my time abroad. I moved back to the states in 2012 and gave birth to a miraculous girl. She and I now live here in Los Angeles. My work has spanned television and film, digital and emotional marketing, and product creation with my latest experience at Netflix as a product producer. I believe in leading with both heart and brains, and that the success I have seen in working with past clients has been my success too. I am proud to say that I have spent much of my career doing just that, always remembering to advocate for narratives that reflect the beauty in everyone’s truth and spending time connecting with people.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest obstacle that I’ve had to overcome was my thoughts. Thoughts of fear, of not being enough and of the ever-challenging imposter syndrome. What if they found out that I did not have what it takes? What if they found out I was really young?But I was enough. I had everything I ever needed to be great. I worked hard, and I always had a positive attitude. I was respectful, creative, I applied myself, a team player, and asked questions, lots of them. I was always excited to learn but most importantly, I showed up every single day, even when things were challenging. The most important lesson is Doing It; show up every day for yourself. In the act of doing, you will eventually find your way. Your little golden nuggets are on the path as you continue to move forward.
In tough situations, when you’re asked to do something, just do it. Then prove them wrong thereafter. It’ll show grit. Have LOTS of it. I once showed up (yay me) in a meeting room with a group of male executives and they asked me to get coffee. I did it. Got all of their coffees. Then sat down and presented as the executive producer from my production company. They retracted their stares and sat taller, finally listening to me whilst sipping their coffee. You’re welcome, men.
What should we know about Good Hause? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am the founder of Good Hause, a creative growth agency. Focusing on female-led businesses. Encouraging equality and eco-conscious decisions during our strategic planning for our clients. I, along with my agency, seek to inspire as many individuals as possible to take chances on themselves, their product and their services that will make this world a better place for all. I am proud to share that since our official inception, we’ve not only partnered with women-led businesses but 100% of our partners are Asian-American women. It was merely by chance and timing that pushed our business in this direction.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
There are endless opportunities! We can achieve so much as women. We make decisions based on empathy, we are courteous, mindful, and kind in our thought processes. Our counterparts, though not all, are complete opposites. We are now in a new century of thought leaders and the world needs kinder ones. We can and should make more conscientious decisions that can impact and benefit the world versus taking away from it. No matter what field you’re in, there is always a different way of doing it. The task may be large and challenging but we are built for challenges! We MAKE humans; let’s spend our energy making humans better along the way.
