Meet Justine Rosario

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justine Rosario.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
If you asked me this question five years ago, I would not be telling this story today and would also have an unclear direction with my craft. I was an amateur photographer who had an iPhone and various photo apps. I had no camera gear or equipment. I barely knew how to use high tech photo apps such as photoshop, lightroom, or premiere pro. I was very into creating montages and vlog videos of friends and loved ones and I frequently used the iMovie app. I had a growing passion and excitement for capturing candid moments and savoring every memory. Even though I was a tight on money at the time, I managed to learn and progress in video and photography with what I had. Sometimes all we need is what’s right in front of us. I had no intentions of my hobbies turning into passions… I soon invested in a small DSLR in 2016, my first camera, a Canon T2i. I’ve been hooked ever since and I have mostly experimented in amateur portraits and landscapes. My specialty is videography and editing, I would like to create videos that make people feel and view their lives with a new sense of gratitude and appreciation. I love to create content that tells a story and to capture vulnerability and humility. I believe there’s more depth in capturing the moments we don’t notice all the time, and the emotions we often don’t show through social media.

Since then, I have upgraded to a Sony camera and continue to self teach myself in photography and film making. I’ve recently done work for one of my good friends who is up and coming musician, @NotKyle, I am currently working on a music video and have done various b-roll film and photography for his profile. I have also worked on promotions and have created content for events to bring social awareness, such as the women’s march that occurred last January. And I have done side video projects and travel videos that showcase my learning growth in premiere pro and after-effects. I would like to continue creating films and content that leave a mark in the community. Especially in LA, we are so occupied with everything moving fast-paced, we sometimes forget to “stop and smell the roses.” I like to build relationships rather than make business deals as I feel it is more important to build a lifetime bond with those I work with.

As “Photographers” we all need to start somewhere, we all have different journeys to reach where we strive to be. I believe it’s really important to be gracious to everyone you meet in life, despite how frustrating the individual or situation can be. It’s good to remember, you will meet everyone you met on your way up again on your way back down. My goal is to show everyone I come in contact with and work with actually knows that they do matter. At this moment trying to reach my goals as a filmmaker and freelancer. What started as a hobby has blossomed into a little more than that.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it has been not. It hasn’t been smooth or bumpy but it’s been a long time. I still view my work as amateur work and probably still would not get over this hutch even when I am successful and in a position where I want to be through my photography. I still don’t feel completely settled in what I am doing and have been underestimated because of certain stereotypes such as “I’m a female photographer so we’re not as good as male photographers”. I think it is what has kept me motivated and engaged all these years. I would like to break these stereotypes and also not be labeled as a “female photographer”. I think all I need right now is more creative direction.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Justine Rosario Photography – what should we know?
I specialize in filmmaking and videography. I do photography as well but my main passion is creating cinematic films.
