Meet Subrina Miller of Heads Up Foundation in Inglewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Subrina Miller.

Subrina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, 33 years ago I was homeless and pregnant. After I got on my feet I started working at the school district. I saw families without. I pledged to help those that was resource-deprived. Now 20 years later I’m honored and humbled to give back to our community.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t always been easy. After being married for ten years adopting four children raising my nieces and my nephews I went through a divorce. I had to start all over again but now with children and a mortgage and making only minimum-wage.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Heads Up Foundation story. Tell us more about your organization.
Our business is made up of community stakeholders. Members that have been there and understand the struggle of those we help. We specialize in being there at all times not just during the holidays. My proudest moment is when the family comes back and says because of us given them a simple book scholarship they graduated from college.

What Sets us apart is this is a passion we have. Others before ourselves. We we’re called to do this.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
As you are aware a homeless population has grown tremendously. Our goal is to purchase a building that we may be able to house families in need.
