Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Hyde.
Kayla, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always loved the beauty/fashion world! Seeing young and beautiful women around me who looked just like me, doing what I love but on a bigger platform inspired me to do it myself. With people consistently telling me to start a vlog, the idea eventually became a reality. Camping out overnight one black Friday evening, I purchased my first professional-level photography. The quality from this camera would allow me to submit to higher-level brands designers and labels.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course, this journey has had its challenges. Often times, in this industry, a lot of us have to deal with self-doubt and rejection. There is no one formula to overcoming, but personally I have found having a strong-willed faith within myself allows me to keep a “never give-up” attitude.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kaayashay – what should we know?
The Kaayashay company represents a lifestyle blog and a beauty/fashion model brand. I freelance model for brands and companies and cover it daily editorial topics on my vlog. I cover beauty hair and skin consultation, but I specialize in professional-level editing of photography and PR/PA relations for high-level artists. My most proud moment is actually very special to me. I’ve seen models up on runways, and never thought I would be up there myself. With no management or backing, I was able to land a runway and model placement for VH1’s “Love and Hip-Hop” designer YËKIM. The industry is filled with beautiful women but my can-do spirit, drive, and initiative combined with my ambition will always set my brand apart.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I don’t believe in luck as much as I credit my faith in God. I believe that luck is really just when hard work meets opportunity.
