Today we’d like to introduce you to Virginia Tucker.
Virginia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Instantly, I fell in love with California. I knew it was exactly where I was supposed to be. After moving out during high school, I started grinding away. Classes, photoshoots, auditions, repeat, practice, and more practice. There is no short road to success. I’ve realized overnight sensations don’t actually exist. Nobody knows about the late-night rehearsals, missing out on prom, moving across the country, and calling my mom about a thousand times for reassurance.
A love for storytelling started for me in second grade. I got cast as “the hag” in a play of the Snow Queen. After getting to shove a pillow in my shirt and spray paint my hair gray, I knew acting was my thing. Fast forward a few years, I ran out of work to do in the D.C. area. I did eight shows one year while attending school! I distinctly remember sleeping at my desk in homeroom, because I skipped every other day of school to do “A Christmas Carol” at Ford’s Theater. Through an acting class in my suburban town, my first ever acting teacher, Cheryl Rhoads, connected me with a manager in Los Angeles. My favorite activity is to invite over new friends for a home-cooked meal and talk about how we ended up in this amazing, often crazy city. Usually, we eat gumbo.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No! Absolutely not. I’ve had many many struggles. Honestly, the way I navigate these challenges is through my relationship with God. What roles should I take? Where’s the money going to come from? How do I deal with these nerves right now? Know that each challenge makes you stronger. It builds you into the woman you are meant to be.

I’ve worked on Criminal Minds, General Hospital, and other television series. Recently, I’ve played the lead role in two Lifetime Movies (Nightmare Tenant and Wicked Mom’s Club). Also, I have a feature (The Last Champion) coming out with Cole Hauser and Hallie Todd sometime in 2020! On the side, I’m working on my own projects.
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
My biggest challenge is that I have more opinions and insight than people assume I do. Rather than let this get me down, I commit to being the best leader I can be by serving others and communicating well. Actually, I have a degree in organizational leadership, and I’m very passionate about bringing those skills into everything I do.
