Today we’d like to introduce you to Alia Spring.
Alia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been immersed in music my entire life. Both my parents are accomplished musicians, so it’s only natural to me. I didn’t pursue music as a profession sooner because for a long time I lacked the self-confidence. It’s funny, people tell you that you can do something your whole life, but if you’re not saying it to yourself it hardly matters. I met my now-husband and producer, Omar, roughly two years ago. When he discovered the scope of my musical ability he took it upon himself to learn to create music and he insisted we make music together. And now we make some dope music.
Has it been a smooth road?
I’m not entirely sure what kind of struggles I’m meant to talk about. Should I discuss the ever-challenging state of my mental health? Or I might tell you about the work relationship balance? I could also talk about my constant fear of failure and lack of financial success. Honestly, there are struggles to face every day, but I’m mostly grateful for the massive amount of support from my friends and family.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
What truly sets us apart from others chasing the same dreams is our diversity. There’s diversity just between myself and my husband and that creates its own unique dynamic. In addition, we maintain diversity in our sound by always trying new things. Each song will be different from the last. I’m not sure we would even be capable of putting together a cohesive sounding album. I like to say we make some combination of pop, reggaeton, and trap with a little electronica thrown in for good measure. We make music in both Spanish and English, and we would love to include anyone of any language in our music. Collaboration is one of our favorite things. I absolutely love meeting other artists to make music with. We create something special and genuine to us and we are constantly striving to improve.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I was born and raised here in Los Angeles so for me, I just call it home. Best thing about LA: Anything you could possibly want to do is within reach both professionally and recreationally. You want to run a homegrown organic non-GMO gluten-free daycare? go for it. You want to go to the beach? Drive an Hour. Want to go to the snow? Drive two. Everything is possible. Worst thing about LA: Anything is possible so people keep coming here so it takes me an hour to drive 6 miles at varying times of the day depending on the day of the week ( That is in no way an exaggeration).
